Quote: "I remember the original series, it was about the same time that Tom Baker was Doctor Who, and we had a lot of British sci-fi going on, "

Adams was actually a script editor/writer for dr who during that period, apparently right before he started writing the book.

its sad to be speaking so much about Discworld in a Hitchhiker thread.. but I just gotta speak my mind as well.
Death is also my favorite character.. but my favorite book is actually the one book he isnt in: "We'free men" But the way the characters grow and interact with eachother is great.

Rincewind the ehm wise: "When you're fee'ing from something looking back to see what is chasing you only slows you down"

Cohen: *takes up his sword slicing the die in two.. the pices landing with 6 and 1 showing up* <-- lucky seven, thats cheating faith

anyway.. I'm gonna stop talking about Discworld now.. I just love the series so much I jump to every opertunity to chat about it.

Hehe, the Nac Mac Feegle are hilarious

I found Small Gods to be one of my favourites.

Hey, Raven,
Quote: "Actually the book doesn't state where Zephods second head it, in-fact the only real reference to it is Auther's comment 'Of course, he only had the one head and was called Phil...'"

Not quite...

Quote: "[marvin takes Arthur and Ford to the bridge of the Heart of Gold] Arthur followed him in nervously and was astonished to see a man lolling back in a chair with his feet on a control console picking the teeth in his right-hand head with his left hand. The right-hand head seemed to be thoroughly preoccupied with this task, but the left-hand one was grinning a broad, relaxed, nonchalant grin."

I think it's pretty obvious from that.

This is actually about 4 or so paragraphs before the quote that you gave... So I don't know how you missed it.

I got that from page 94 of THHGTTG The Trilogy Of Four ( Picador ).

Jess.

ok
i just ghot back from watching it
I simply cannot believe how random that film was
And best of all.. they included what i went to see
Somewhere in the book it talks when the spaceship lands about "a thousand people saying wop"

and guess what...
when the world explodes what noise does it make

WOP!!!!!!

MY LIFE IS COMPLETE!!!!!!

That has to be the best movie I have seen for bloody ages!
And probably will remain like that.

I was actually dissapointed by Trillian-- didn't mind Zaphod's head as much as I thought I would. I suppose she was sort of slightly hot, but the main thing is that her character seemed like a stereotypical female, rather more boring than in the book. The only bad part about the movie though, the rest was brilliant

Saw it today and it was pretty good. Zaphod's third arm was pretty pathetic, but heads weren't that bad. Quite enjoyable all round.

Oh yeah, not a good idea 'Robot' spoiling it for everyone.

Yay, went to see it today. I don't remember the third arm being a big part of the book anyway, so it really didn't detract from it.

They played the thing between Trillian and Arthur up a little much, but they probably did it that way to make it fit the movie mold. I had some friends with me who'd never read the books, and even they got a great kick out of it.

Heh heh, I saw somebody walk into the theater with a towel.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. They adapted the whale nicely. And the song is quite catchy:

"So long and thanks for the fish!"

Sigs blow.

And for those who haven't seen original tv series, they are playing all 6 episodes tonight on paramount 2, and BBC2 will be showing them starting this Tuesday at 11:20pm

Watched a couple of episodes tonight (last time I saw them was at least 10 years ago). Can't believe how much of the film script is word perfect to original tv series.

Hello ground! Will you be my friend?

The whole theatre busted up at that moment, especially the guy sitting in front of me with his towel.

The movie was brilliant. The singing dolphins were guinius! I would have probably killed myself if Slartibartfast hadn't said: "It scares the willies out of me!"

just watched it! love the film. got home and read the book and started making the game... then got bored and carried on reading the book... and then fell asleep... and dreamt dolphin dreams.

marvin rules.

zaphod ruled significantly less so.

Anyone in the UK see the first episode in the re-run of the hhgttg series on tv (BBC2) last night? (Tuesday). It was on pretty late - 11:20 to 11:55. The "special effects" had me laughing . It was made in the 80's I believe.

Trillian was hot though
