Bought myself a Router today (D-Link 802.11g DSL-904), in all it was pretty simple to get it all set up for the networking portion.

Attached the USB 54Mb Adapters to each of the systems, Windows XP Service Pack 2 acknowlages that the D-Link AirSpeed is on one of the systems but I bought a Belkin G for mine which doesn't appear to be WHCP but and not automatically detected via the Wireless protocols (and annoyingly running at 11Mb instead which I'm trying to correct)... on the whole though just basically connected them turned on the Router and bam the wireless network is up and running without a hitch.

Tried to do the same with my NTL120 Modem though, and that's where things have gone sideways. Tried setting Connection1 to DHCP settings, but it refuses to acknowlage the Modem is there.

Before anyone states the obvious, yes I turned it off and gave it time to reset before plugging it in again. Still the problem keeps happening. While I still have my hardline available I'm still able to reset the modem and go online, but I would like to get rid of all of these wires. With the exception of the Power Lead it is the last thing that is physically connected to my PC.

Anyone have any experience setting up NTL over a Wireless Router, let me know how your suppose to do it. Really don't feel like talking to the helpline (that more than likely say they don't support Routers and I should purchase thier official Wireless Router Solution.)

I honestly can't remember having any probs with either of my wireless routers. Just plugged in and it all worked. It's been a while though, but still I've got 3 laptops and an IPAQ on wireless, plus 2 main PCs hard wired to the router. None gave any problems, even with WEP. All are XP home or pro.

So what, you can use the network between PC's, but not to browse the net? And each PC works fine if directly plugged into the modem via a network cable?

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Yeah, basically... the Wireless router will LAN just fine. It even adjusted itself so I can have the Wired LAN at the same time.

I can share the Internet if it is connected to my NIC (like it was setup before), but if I reset the modem and connect to the Router it just refuses to see it.

I've tried the Modem on all 3 machines we have running atm along with the Wireless, and there were no problems provided it's directly connected to the PC's, just as soon as I try to connect to the router the problems begin.

Two of the faster machines (mine and my brothers) are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 Professional, and my parents system is running Windows XP. Given I can just plug everything in and it sets itself..

It's probably the modem's fault.. it's always been a bit touchy what network connections it uses. I suppose given we're tucking my parents PC behind the TV (cause they use it that little it'll be hooked up to the TV), I could set that as the Internet Hardline and then use the Wireless for the Networking of the other two machines.

Just wish there was a way to provide a more direct internet to all though.
