Looks like you have some serious texture stretching there...make sure non of your faces are "sideways" in your UV map...

Nice, but yeah those textures are screwed up a bit.

Sega and Microsoft nothing but the best.

I find the easiest way is to decal map the side(maybe you have Lithunwrap, that's what I use) - then texture that with your main gun image. Then using the poly select too you select an edge and then deselect the vertices that are not on the edge - this gives a thin red line that you would decal map again at the correct orientation. It's kinda like a slow cube map, but it does give a lot more control. I like to put the top edge part above the main gun image so it blends around the top edges.

Other than the points already made about your UV map, I think maybe the barrel is a little generous with the polycount - I can't see any edges which is often a bad sign - typically a 12 sided cylinder is plenty when the barrel is like that - it'll be small on screen, too small to warrant a lot of polygons.

No kidding.

Although the texture needs to be roughened up a bit to look realistic.

Why do you need help with the bottom part? I don't see any problem.

So he would be talking about the trigger, trigger guard and backhand grip.

AZP, even better modelers than me would find it helpfull to know what program you are using.

Yep thats a concept image more then likely, as if he did it he would have hosted it on his own site, thats from a different site. He uses 3DS Max. Its shocking to me how everyone can afford it

Already been said, no trigger, UV is pretty messed up, and judging by that concept, you have a long ways to go.

That's not shocking to me...what's shocking is how they found it using p2p and i didn't

(ok so i wouldn't have actually downloaded it if i had found it ...well...maybe... )

the same way u made the rest...? tell the less informed people that that one image was a drawing and not a render lol.
but seriously u should be able to do the rest the same way u did the other parts but with higher resolution as far as subdivisions for the rounded edges.

That was meant to be sarcastic...Im sure 99% of the people on this forum that own 3DS Max/Maya/Lightwave (not as much LW..) own it illegally. Yes there are some exceptions, but when you see a post like....

Quote: "hiiii!! im new at this hole game making seen but i really wanna make my 3d games!!!!1 well i got 3d studio max 7 and adobe photoshop 8 but i don know how 2 use them LAWL!!!1 well k if ne1 can help me that would be wicked kewl k tankzzzzz "

Something just isnt right.... No one has yet to post that exact message....but theyve came dang close

just photo texture it (decal map onto image)

i think it would be worth it to smooth the grips out a little bit. change the cylinders into 8sided instead of 16 if u dont want to up the poly count any.

or make a high poly model and use it to make a normal map (may or may not involve shaders)

@ RPGamer,

hi m8, On the subject of dodgy software, I reckon about 20% of the apps used to make graphics here are legitimate, the other 80% are most probably cracked, It would be interesting to see just how many people have spent more on their 3D apps than their actual computer systems. Not a lot I think. And when you see posts like this one you really have to wonder? would I be asking the critique of my latest MAX creations on a Game Dev forum, Nah. If i'd spent well over a grand on 2 apps to make models and graphics, would I be using a 50 quid app to hold my creations together. nah. would I be speaking to you in teh l33t 5peak, nah. and would i have a lame 768k avatar, nah. Why oh Why, for the quality of 3d rendering and modelling apps in use on this forum is most of the content being made sub-standard, because if you spend a whole lot of money on these power apps, you should be aiming a lot higher than most of the graphic drivel that folk make here. There are exceptions to the rule of course, just not many on this forum.

Mom ! I forgot where we live. but I can spend over a grand on apps.

mmmm....computer....

Heh, very true. I'd say it's probably 50:50 though.
It really does get to me seeing some 16yo asking to be some '1337 3|> 9uy' with a $3,200 application, who can just about make a cube shiney. Then somehow believe they deserve a damn medal for it.

You know what pisses me off even more, are those people who have been modelling for about a week in milkshape or something; show something off that look reasonably like what it is suppose to.. and the entire forum stops to say 'OMFG!! ur a geniues!', then that person becomes known as the forum guru of everything 3D.

What's more is they actually [censored] believe it!?!

Start acting like a pre-madonna with a pole up thier arse. Yet they still make comments like 'What do you mean, what shading mode is it rendered in. It's Max!'

geecee, LESS THAN 80%.
I'd say about 80% of software used in this forum is illegal.

Also, Normal Maps = NO on a weapon. On hands, yes, but on a gun it's no use.
