I've started working on one, but it's progressing very slowly as I don't feel much like programming after I've been doing it at work all day. Plus I have a terrible habit of browsing the forums instead of coding.

I did get half way through one, but stopped because it stopped compiling

I suppose an RTS game requires knowledge of loads of different fields - pathfinding, ai, 2d/3d projection, unit management - that's why not alot have been made.

Facts are meaningless.
You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.

My RTS called 'dreAm' has been production for the last year and a half. Its going very slow, and I've rewritten the whole thing about 4 times now, each time avoiding some stupid mistake I made in the previous version.

I cant say much about it, but I spent 2 months thinking of a 'novel idea', which has now been superseeded by current games I hope to finish by midway next year at max. (I know, its ages, but the outcome should be cool. I'm currently tring to create a lighting system.)

It depends who you talk to doesn't it?
While the majority of the world revolve around FPS games or RPG as the major types of game... when you look at them, FPS just sell well but there are actually only a few available.

RPGs however just absolutely saturate the markets with far too much choice for reason.

In the past year there have been several landmark RTS games released, AoE 3, Cossaks 3, Settlers 5, etc.. but they've only been for the PC which has never really been the biggest games market.

@the chode: if you are the guy behind me with a knife, well!, I am six floors up and my chair is backed up to the outside wall, that places you six floors up and outside the building, don`t you feel one of those "wile 'e coyote" moments coming on?

OIE is a strategy game, well it is if you play it like me (splitting the dudes up and stuff) - I mean, so many people forget that you can simply unselect a dude and he'll shoot the enemies himself.

It does seem strange that we'd have such a thin covering of RTS compared to other genre's though - I mean it's not even that kids don't play them, hell my little brother (12) has an awesome collection of RTS games!. Hopefully Firewall will encourage more strategic game projects.

I made a noteable strategy game loosely based on Star Craft. It is called:

http://www.scotttown.com/games/game3.html

This game has no shooting, just four totally different terrained levels on Mars, ten minutes of CGI animations, and lots of strategy.

Im working on a non-realtime strategy game. It will hopefully be my best project to date. Expect to see a demo around 5/17/05 as thats when i need to give a presentation on it, so a demo MUST be done.
