Hi. I was going to post a WIP thread for my upcoming game, but its way too early. So, I started this thread for 'very early' WIP projects.

Only post a single shot for your game please! Enjoy this (still) very early shot of my upcoming 3D RTS game 'dream::catcher' (yes, it does use the water shader from the DBP board )

(Currently re-making the land)

Hence the title. This should be claimed as a NO flaming thread, as it is MEANT to be used for projects that are just starting out.

Love the sky texture...and the water seems...very...real.

Here's mine...that grass is a temporary image that "Chris K" made...

Note: parts of the image to the sides and the top have been cut off because of their extreme monotony

Here is a project I have been working with on and off. Not much to show as most of the programming I have done on it is purely "behind-the-scenes" functionality. This project is called "Tail Whipped", the name doesn't make sense unless you know the story behind it. This is my Online Game Project, should be able to support 1000+ members, but not expecting more than 20 or so at a time ever...and I am not using traditional multiplayer methods, hence why im able to support the lot. Anyway...here are some GUI pics:

Strangely, its running extremely fast, which I cant quite understand

Yet again, There's hardly anything on the screen, so that probably has something to do with it.

Edit; Apolloed, nice GUI etc - I wish I could make nice interfaces like that one

You people are going overboard. This is so WIP to the point of nearly nothing. I understand people posting work and asking for feedback but how the hell do you give back feed back on say *cough* a screenshot of a menu or blank level editor? (And trust me you're going to get alot of those)

The whole point of WIP is to show off actual completed bits of work...

Its quite discoraging when your starting out a huge project, knowing that your not going to get feedback for ages (especially in the case of an RTS). SO I posted this so I could get immediate 'face-value' reaction to my (3 days worth) of work. If you dont like the idea of this 'Megaton Cat' then just leave - were not holding you here

Quote: "(And trust me you're going to get alot of those)"

I dont mind. The whole point of this thread is to show WIP projects as a whole - this could just be the 'brilliant interface' or maybe the 'beautiful menu'. I dont mind

You're not making any sense.

Quote: "Its quite discoraging when your starting out a huge project, knowing that your not going to get feedback for ages"

That is my whole point. How can someone expect to recieve feedback if they hardly have anything done? This is where your modesty comes in.

To me WIP is:
Hello everyone. Here is the first completed level of a game I am working on. Uses 512x512 textures, xxxx polygons etc. Suggestions and comments would be nice. Thank you.

To you a WIP is:
Hell everyone. Here is a title screen of my game. Note that the game is in an EXTREMLY early stage where nothing as of yet is completed. Nonetheless, I still want user feedback & comments on my game. Thank you.

What exactly is your point here? As I said in the previous bit
Quote: "o I could get immediate 'face-value' reaction to my (3 days worth) of work. "
- thats all I (and others) want: an immediate reaction to the screen (not in-depth analysis of the screen, just the thoughts that instantly pop into people's head)

I dont want to get into an argument here (even though I am in one
) but if you dont enjoy the idea of this thread, then you can keep away from it - I intended it to be just an early 'showcase' for early pieces of work.

Hey lightining, you mine as well ask the mods to lock this thread and create a new one. This one is just going to stray way off Topic.

If thats how someone feels, then its highly probable that they won't finish the project anyway.

That looks good. I would suggest smoothing out the outline and possibly adding droped shadows to help it blend with the background.

I think this thread is a great idea. It's not like it's harming anyone by being here and I totally agree with Lightning Studios , sometimes when I start a project I want to tell people all about my ideas and what I'm going to put into it but can't because I have nothing to show.

Eventually I'll get bored and move onto something else, at least this way people can get feedback. I remember a while back when working out how to do decent 3d movement was a massive step for me but I couldn't tell anyone because you'd all flame.

If you really don't like it can't you just think of it as lots of dev.diarys all crammed into one thread?

And now when you see a new user showing off a title screen in the wip board you can just link them here instead of explaining why no-one thinks they can make HL3.

@Lightning Studios: Landscape is awesome, whatd u make it with? Just in DBP?

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.

Oh yeah - I just used heightmaps actually The latest newsletter's simple landscape tutorial helped me to create my own landscape etc.

Just so you know (this may seem weird) but the matrix itself is 50000x50000

Reason; I wantd a limitless universe of gameplay

Quote: "hmm, your landscape looks great but what is your game?
"

My game is a sort of RTS/RPG hybrid. The player chooses there own attributes (appearencem, gender etc.) and is entered into the game world. Here, they can explore the huge island, and do practically whatever they want find native tribes, and talk with villages. Form relationships with the locals and even take control of whole villages - even lead them into war!

This is just a taster, as there is one big twist in the gameplay I dont wish to disclose until demo time - I want the player to feel as though they are playing 'some normal RTS/RPG' for the first 25-30 mins. Then I'll add some 'secret sauce'.......

Thanks for all the interest. Im currently working on the landscape/trees+player character
