Ahoyhoy! I have been working on a little something for the Cinco de Mayo and TGC Puzzle compo. Decided to use both a puzzle AND a sombrero theme in this game so i could enter it in both comps.

By now i realise ill never finish it in time, but i am liking the concept even more, and a year or so down the track this should be a complete game!

Here are the screens of the 3 main characters:

And the same models in "Shoert Film" mode, getting prepared for an assesment Animation:

Feel free to say what you think of them, constrctive criticism would be appreciated.

Thanks. As soon as I get home from school I plan to work on them to perfect for the game, but the movie ones have a long way to go. I have some touch ups for the game meshes:

Animatable mouths and eyes
Ears
Hair
Character tools
Make connection to body easier and better

The bodys proportions will change according to each characters build,
so i need to get that done. After i do that i can get the clothing accesories complete. I also have completed hand models that i need to attach.

..............then mapping....
..............rigging.........
..............animations......
..............sigh............

Ill give it 2 weeks until total completion.

These models will also feature in a HL2 MOD, to keep an eye out.

Hehe. I was surprised at how difficult I found it to find reference pics for mexican guys.
In the end I just made em using no concept sketches or reference pics.

Ya, those are great!

the only part that looks weird is their hands....which kinda look like elephant feet...

but if they are supposed to be that way for style then that's fine! (or maybe you just haven't added the hands yet?)

I'm glad my game isn't in 3D because yours would beat it.

Well i am working on the hands at the moment, VERY low poly as i dont see the need for good detail on these. They will hardly be visible.

Anyways here are some new head shots.

Notice the ears...
Next is the body work, Hands and then they will be complete(as far as modelling is concerned)

Cheers

I think your models look better in the tan/yellow colour than with all the detailed/grey colour; it makes them look at though their made out of dough or something

Were those box modeled w/ meshsmooth, etc?

Also, would you mind posting a wireframe from front/side viewport? I'm kinda learning how to model characters with Max and yours are AWESOME!!!!

Wait , you mean you modelled them using the spline method ? As in you modelled in every single vertex ? Or did you make them out of basic shapes (NURBS primitives) ?

ouch, triangulated, personally I'd say that increases the poly count unecessarily, oh well

Dark basic triangulates the models anyway so it doesnt nmatter. I can remove the triangles in 3ds but i didnt see the point.

okay I see.

@ Keemo, I don't have clue, I box model and polygon model, oh only splines to lathe.

I know you can makes spline nurbs and either use them as a rail for an object to follow, or use them to extrude, lathe, sweep and other nurb stuff. Other uses, I've never tried except in plugins, like bolt classic, it uses sweeped splines to recreate a lightning effect.

if spline modelling is the way i think , then it will never be accurate .

The way i think :- get a back ground pic (of a boy maybe) then put vertexes along the oultine (profile) of his body , then switch to face tool , and start attachin faces , finally , ctrl+a then extrude and your done .

is that the way >?

pls reply---

keemo, thats polygon modelling (well thats what it is in C4D) polygon modelling can be innaccurate, but if you apple a smooth shading and maybe some texture too, it can hide problems, or you could apply Hyper nurbs (3ds max term.....ummmmm Turbo smooth?) and those inaccuracies disapear, but the poly count soars

Spline modelling in 3ds max is the process of drawing out lines and connecting then to get a shape, then draw out the lines into 3d space untill you get the right dimensions for the shape. Apply a surface modifier to transform it into a visible 3d object. the you can choose how many sections you want it to have and change the smoothness, and still edit the splines underneath so it is really easy to change things around. If you have 3ds max I;d recommend it.
Afterwards you could jjust convert to poly to do minor modifications. And, if done correctly, It is very accurate.

Um , does that mean reducing poly counts ?

Spline or Poly modelling is becoming easy for me in milkshape . But How do i reduce polys to make my models load faster ?

I dont want to buy that TGC prog to reduce polys , is there a scode snippet for it to be reduced in DBP or some prog that reduces it for free ?

pls reply---

use the tools and make less poly gons than you usually do, you can reduce the poly count in some programs, but in programs like trueSpace it looks aweful, so do what I do and make the object low poly yourself

Max can reduce Polygons with MultiRes it looks good if you use it right.

Indian Homie G in max you can make splines in 3ds space like make a helix its a twisty spline that has height. but like if you made a spline in the front viewport the spline would be standing up and he could make 3d shapes made out of splines. Sorry if you cant understand
me or if Stalker is talking about something completely different im sorry.
