G'day guys, stopped back in melbourne for a while, and I just thought i'd post about my new computer. It's a pentium 2 266, yep, top of the line.... well sorta. What i plan on doing is getting a copy of every single game produced on and before 1996 for the pc, making a dos machine of power aswell as runnin 98 for other games. Why you ask, well why not? saves me having to mess round with a DOS emulator to play some of the classics. Anyway the main point of this thread is to rack the brains of all you crazy kids out there an dcome up with a definitive list of the must have dos games and others that may not be so famous, what with making a database of dos games being so hard for one person to undertake and all. anyway i have thirty listed so far;
1. ultima 1 -> 8
2. liero (yeah i know its not pre 96 but its dos so back off!)
3. Cyberdogs 1 & 2
5 Dreamweb
6. Ultima underworld
7. badblood
8. NWN (old version)
9. Old school lotr rpg series
10. Daggerfall
11. AOE 1
12. Star wars ; Tie fighter, rebel assault, dark forces 1 & 2 etc
13 Starlancer
14. Wing commander series
15. Worms
16. Cannon fodder
17. baldurs gate 1 (just cause a p2 266 can run it. awesome.)
18. close combat series
19. halloween harry
20. captain claw
21. Dune series (1,2,2000)
22. Quake
23. Duke nukem series (1,2,3d)
24. Dungeon keeper 1
25. Alien Vs Predator
26. Street rod (1 & 2)
27. Skunny Karts (never liked that one)
28. Abuse
29. Carmageddon
30. Ravenloft series
31. StoneKeep
32. Commander keen series
33. Syndicate series (surprised its not number 1??)
34. lure of the temptress
35. Cyberia
36. Exile (1,2,3) (and other spiderweb software titles, look them up, greatest pc rpg's around)

and ther eare more, but heck if i can be bothered listing them, so someone give a shot to throw in a few more!

I always found Elite2 (Frontier) a very nice game for it's time, something that you can play a little of every so often and not get sick of it.

The Eye of the Beholder games would be a good choice too - as would Captive which is abandonware - Captive is my all time fave game BTW, best RPG of 1990.

How's about ZZT? That game was a classic... Granted, it's more of a game MAKER than a game, but it comes with some good ones on it!

Here're the ones I can't see in that list:

Doom 1,2, Ultimate and Final
Elder Scrolls: Arena
Hexen
Terminator: Future Shock and SkyNet
Road Rash
Betrayal at Krondor
Betrayal in Antara

All these are 96 or earlier!

I don't suffer from insanity - I enjoy every minute of it!

yep i got a few of the monkey islands, and i did list doom didnt i? oh it appears i didn't, well doesn't matter I got doom 2 anyway, might pick up that collectors edition set, also I've read the books and playe dbetrayal at krondor, awesome reads and pretty neat game. I've downloaded a few mor ethings that arent on the list, have yet to find prince of persia. Problem with most dos sites is even though the game is abandonware you can only get the shareware versions. such as wolfenstein etc, can only find the sharewarez

holy crepe paper, that site is pretty good, thanks sep.

Quote: " X-COM: UFO Defense"

as soon as i can find it yes, thats awesome.
also i got elder scrolls arena off the elder scrolls site, its freeware now.

edit: just went thru the list on that site, musta downloaded near 100 games, and half of them were ones on my list that i couldnt find! including veil of darkness, which i couldnt remembe rits name so i listed it as that vampire game where you crash your plane into a hamlet. seriously abandonia totally rocks, while xcoms download let me get a list of games i have dl'd.

edit 2: just checked thru while writing up0 a list, 133 games downloaded, plus another 20 odd cd owned in my bag. heck if i aint the dos king. when i treid saving the 133 list notpad said not responding

You'll find it somewhere on google:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2003-33,GGLD:en&q=transport+tycoon+deluxe&spell=1

I bought it ages ago for £10, but it was the DOS version not hte windows version. You can get the windows version off the net, so I'm using that to play it on XP
