I was just day dreaming again and here's what I came up with...

DBP International Coding Challenge

- Use all of the 20 Line Challenge Rules
- The programmers have a time limit of half an hour
- The catch is that you can only compile ONCE. One single compile, after that, if there are errors you're disqualified, if not you're entered.
- Judges play each game and rate how good they are, the winner recieves...I dunno, something...bragging rights

I don't know how you'd monitor the one compile limit. At first I was thinking have it online but that would involve making a custome dbp program allowing only 1 compile...and a hole bunch of other crap.

The other way would be to have the challenge/tournament done at a real place, crammed with computers...

Anyways, I know this is basically impossible to have, but I just thought I'd say it/ Im bored -_-

"Meh",RUCCUS.

not a bad idea, just dont see how youd moniter the 1 compile limit

Video games…they can take you places unreachable, impossible, unfeasible. They put you in the book...they put you in the movie...they put you in a world, a world that before could only be imagined.

Lol that's why I suggested holding it in the "real" world at a convention...kind of like the one that Mnem was bugging for...^_^

Not really 'international' if it's at a convention, plus, there's too many restrictions, you wouldn't get anything quality out of that competition.

Just because you may be uncapable of such a feat, does not mean everyone is.

actually, with these restrictions, I think it does mean just that.

I'd like to see you come up with a decent game that's under 20 lines within the next day, let alone 30 minutes, and that's not even taking into consideration the '1 compile' limit!

It may be more practical with the 1 compile limit to give a much longer time, ie a week, so they can check, check and double check the game. Also the 20 line limit is silly, most good games wont fit in there...

Change anything lol I don't care it was just the basis of the idea, half an hour would be pretty small but I think a week would be too much. Either way it's probably never going to happen so it doesn't matter.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because the filesize was too large.

I never said I could do it. Im just saying out of all the people that use DBP there has got to be a few that are capable of producing something of quality.

I highly doubt it's possible with just a 1 compile limit. I think it would be better to give a 2 compile limit, so after the first compile you can hope that all of your mistakes are apparent so you can fix them all before a second compile. If your game crashes right off the bat then it will be harder to fix all of the bugs before the second compile.
