many of you will not be familiar with this, as i mainly post on LLRGT forums. but i have been working on this project for quite some time!
(9 is the number of times that i've started re-coding from scratch on the project)

So far, the engine has:
basic vector/inertia movement
NGC collision
Weapons firing, colliding, sounding, damaging
destruction of objects (with effects)
engine effects
various ships (loaded from ini files)
stations recently implimented
turrets
(dockports coming soon)
Stars
Planets
simple targeting HUD
simple AI (attack, goto, crash ? formate functions)

i apologise for the carying sizes of the shots, but i have bad experience with resizing... (i have no app that i can currently do it with for a start)

Sweet crap. That image took 12min to load on my cable connection.

Anyway, flying that thing looks like fun. Any chance of a demo so we can really try it out and comment?

I like these screenies (not least, as a lot of people know, I'm working on a space sim myself, so screenies of other space sims are inspirational).

I'm interested in how you did the Suns. Are they sphere objects with a texture and a plane with a sunglare effect texture on it? Or is something more complex going on? I can't help noticing that the G star (the yellow one) doesn't look like a perfect sphere?

i'm not shure how X's is doing his stars .. i think he's using plains that are textured as am I

that planet only looks warped because of the camera settings. they look real nice when you are moving about in engine.

same happens to my planets and effects ..

good to see an other space sim coder

hmm site is down atm..... no idea why.
should be back up soon - i hope

the stars and planets use about the same technique - a plain at the same position as a sphere. for the star, the plain is about 8x the size of the sphere, and the colour at the centre is the same colour that the sphere is coloured with, and you set lighting on the sphere to off. that way, the sphere blends with the image of the plain
i'll attach my function

Thats roughly the same as what I am doing. I'm not sure whether the set object emissive has any effect though.

emissive is cool if you want it to be a light or have extra bright spots .

the dark side of my planets will have city lights later on .

my planets are spheres with 1 is a atmos' layer using blen mapping .
note bump mapping is off because i have to re do it in blaned mapping stack .

and the planet and atmos' react to point and flood lights . as my star contains apoint light the same as it's color.
take a look .
my star is a place holder . and is just a plain that orients towards the camera, the old one had effects , but i'm not done the new ones.

As you are both fellow space sim creators, I thought I'd direct you to the following thread:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=54149&b=1

This is the thread in which I posted a link to some VERY old screenies taken of Entropy.

3 projects lined up for myself...

After my puzzle game failed (DBP editor bugged overwrote my code with a blank project) these are the three remaining ideas:

1)Dream::Catcher ~ My 3D RTS/RPG

2)The Trap ~ Player sets up a hotel in a tycoon-esque game. Except, the aim here to create fake insurance scams by actually killing/injuring visitors with macabre traps...

3)Gamer ~ A game in which the player... makes games.....

i've been following this project for a while too, xtrade, image tags work like this:

needs the http://
and paint can resize, under image then stretch/scew, just set the width/height to the same percentage change eg 50 for both to reduce the image to 1/4 the original size.

Yes, and even better for all of us space trading game addicts, check out Cloggy's announcement in the Program Announcements forum. High speed DBPro text and, best of all, 3D text! Woohoo!
