The people that run that IRC channel are a bunch of lonely socially-deprived losers that have not a clue as to what they are doing

I agree. I dunno what happened, but after the network change the people that kept it running dissapeared. CR never shows up, and while ZKAT8IT does keep the server running, without EricT, Jimmy, Mouse, etc. as opers... idk. It's fallen down considerably. I logged on one day and let it set for 2 hours hardly a page of text had gone past when I came back

Why? The IRC channel is not run DBP and essentially has nothing to do with DBP. So to leave the DBP community because you are banned in some IRC channel is unreaonable. But hey, its up to you

IRC does suck, big time. It always has.

Getting banned is nowhere near the end of the world.

A true sign of the apocalypse would be... oh I dunno, say... Raven telling the truth. When that happens, then we'll listen to your moaning.

To be banned from the channel, you must have done something ridiculous, as you know we try to be as liberal as possible, and we moderate a helluva lot less than these forums. If you have a problem with a banning that may not have been fair, come to me, dont bitch on the forums about it, I can help sort the problem out.

Try out the controller:-

Underlord, you have to remember that #darkbasic is run by a bunch of kids, and therefore they are bound to be unfair. Problem explained.

Oh and theres the fact that Mouse helps run them... that only just about drops a hint or two.

The only thing I thought was strange about the IRC room was that they didn't like when I changed my name to Jeku-Working so I could work on my game while checking back in the chat room every few minutes. It was like I had to either pay 100% attention to the chat room or leave it completely.

Well, you do need to pay 100% attention, as otherwise you wont be able to solve the DBPro problems (and they are a lot tricker than what we get here).

I think all mods should be over 18 years of age to be a mod, this forum has 15 year olds telling adults what you are and are not allowed to say, Especially if it is not somthing the mod agree's with, just watch.

Teh Go0rfmeister: She will have more life experience than you, she may not be academically as skilled as you, but life is also an experience that cant be taught in class, at this point in time you will probably think I’m talking garbage but as you go through life and witness things yourself, you too will understand what I am trying to say.
I have worked in four different countries, witnessed first hand different cultures and drank a lot of funky beer, but that’s another story, guess I can say at this stage I am more experienced than you, but this does not mean I am more intelligent, even if I was, how would we be able to tell, would it be a test, then witch one would we take that would be suitable to both our academic skills, do you see what I mean?
So to sum up I think it would be in the interest of this forum to give this type of responsibility to some one with more experience, but not me thanks.

I'm completely behind all of the other mods of this forum - none of them are irresponsible and all of them try to be careful in their decisions. All of us have our own opinions, but we try not to let that influence us.

A measure of how well we do is that Rich almost never reverses a decision made by a mod, which just goes to show how well the mods were chosen.

I think it would be in the best interest of these forums for you to provide backup to the mods, rather than ignore any one of them because they may be younger than you think is appropriate for the position.

mikey is an example of a youngster being an oper. does his job well. right now i think we have the right balance of opers. hardly anyone mucks about now, the room count for #darkbasic is going up? there was 20 something today.

i'm on a never ending quest to try and see if other language rooms would join the network. helping it to become a multi language network where people have choice.

we've come a long way from when the #darkbasic room started to now. right now we're on more stable servers than the former networks we was on. we offer more network wide features and ability to customise your own channel to your own requirements.

also please remember we are on the devhat/darkbasicnet address not chattingaway (if you use the java app). i was talking to someone yesterday who was unable to change server 3 times (from CA to DH/DBNET). i wont say who it was, maybe you lot can expose the user

Rich is not a stupid person, im sure your quite aware. He probably felt that the age of the mods was not a factor in who should become a mod, and he is probably quite correct. Age is too abstract to make this kind of decision on IMHO.

Lag has a nice example. Mikey's quite young and is very responsible with his powers in the IRC.

If you think age is an issue, you're interpreting something personal out of a simple enforcement of rules. That's not the mod's problem

I base my opinion on personal experience on this forum, and do not want to be insensitive to any mod’s opinion and decision making ability, but I feel that we should sometimes take into consideration that members like myself spend a lot of money on the products that this forum promotes and that it’s a little hard to except that a 15 year old would ban me for airing my opinion about a current topic that I have had a personal experience with, just because he did not agree with my opinion, this was a personal attack and the mod in question knows that, so yes I do believe that age has something to do with that.
I have had my Rant, sorry all who may be offended.

Age should be the basis of nothing. It should all go down to maturity. Besides, theres more then one 15-16 (he may be 17 now, i'm, not sure) year old mod here that I know of (other than the one in question)... and he does (Well, he isn't around as often anymore, so, did) a hell of a job.

What I am saying is, leave the age factor out of it

I have a hard time believing a mod banned you merely for airing your opinion. If someone's written opinion involves flaming, personal attacks, and/or illegal activity, then I can see why a ban is in order.

EDIT:

Are you referring to the IRC room or this forum? Just for clarification.

I doubt-- no, in fact, simply don't believe that any of the moderators would ban someone for stating their opinion. If it was an irrelevant thread, you might be warned. If it was a flame, attack or highly offensive comment, you might also be warned. If it was any of the above after repeated warnings to cease and desist, then you'd be banned, and you would also deserve it.

If you think you were treated unfairly you can take the issue up with another mod or the administrator... but since you haven't provided any evidence to support your case yet, I'm leaning towards believing you were out of line. Nothing personal.

I dont believe my opinion was out of line, I felt that I made a point that was based on my life experience and was told that I was out of line, however this thread seems to be getting us nowhere, so I am going to leave it at that and rock no more boat's.
Thanks for letting me have my say.

anyway, what i was syaing about me being smarter than my own grandma... well in fact she's probably smarter than me academically, she used to be a teacher ffs, i was saying the complete opposite of what you were thinking i was syaing. imo, to be smart academically is nothing. what can a kid do if he can recite dats of the french revolution? become a pary trick?

i disagree. IRC is better when you need help because people have to respond with help, or else make themselves look bad by ignoring you.

on the forums, you can pick and chose who you wish to help so if you go looking for help and its a specially hard question, you might have to wait ages for osmeone of more exp than you to come and help.

thanks for your advice 0_x, but my childhoods already been wasted... lets hope my adolescent yrs aren't so bad...
