Im not sure where this belongs but Ill post it here.

I have some questions on the real world of game creation.Like,Can you be good at both modeling and Programming. Can you be both a modeler and programmer by profession. Can you be a programmer for a company and come up with the game concepts or would you have to just program. How much voice does a programmer have on how a game works. Do programmers work in cubicals, an office, or at home. If someone wanted to make their own company how might that person make it sucessful. Can he program for it and run it. If you became a programmer do you have to sit and code all day. or can you do jumping jacks every now and than or what. Is it hard to become a good programmer. Are programmers reconized for idividual talent. I know in TGC Lee is a good programmer. But in the game development world is an individual rcongnized or is it the company as a whole.
If you suck at programming how can you get good enough for commercial game making or am I doomed. Im better at Modeling than Programming but Id rather be a Programmer.Should I stick with what Im better at or should I go for what I want to be good at?

Sorry about all the questions but Im just a very curious person!

Thanks for your patience reading this,

lol, lots of questions . Most all of it is situational, but heres my responses :
Quote: "Like,Can you be good at both modeling and Programming"

of course, why not? If u take the time to learn both .

Quote: "Can you be a programmer for a company and come up with the game concepts or would you have to just program"

depends...are you talking about for a company? then it depends on the company. If ur talking about urself then you usually have to, hehe.

Quote: "How much voice does a programmer have on how a game works."

Once again depends on the company. Some programmers are told to do something and do it, others come up with concepts and ideas on what to do in the game.

Quote: "Do programmers work in cubicals, an office, or at home"

And again, depends on the company, hehe, and ur position. EA games has cubicles and offices.

Quote: "If someone wanted to make their own company how might that person make it sucessful. "

Im not sure i understand what you want to know, hehe .

Quote: "Can he program for it and run it."

of course, its ur decision, its not like theres any laws against it or anything, hehe. I plan to be a CEO of my own company, Lead Programmer, and Lead Designer (i know, big goals, please dont discourage me ).

Quote: "If you became a programmer do you have to sit and code all day. or can you do jumping jacks every now and than or what."

hehe, just cause you program for 8-10 hours a day, doesnt mean u cant do something else for the other 4-8. Go to the gym, get involved in a sport, go bicycling, swim, etc. . Also i think theres a lot of video game companies that require exercise and breaks, EA games even has a gym in the building, hehe.

Quote: "If you became a programmer do you have to sit and code all day. or can you do jumping jacks every now and than or what."

depends on ur definition of hard . Yes it takes time, and effort, but if you want to do it, you could, you dont have to be born with the talent .

Quote: "Are programmers reconized for idividual talent."

idk what you mean. If you work for a company, then you get ur names in the credits, but people dont pay attention to that a lot, but i dont see why youd leave the company, so it wouldnt matter anyways. If you did leave the company, then on ur resume you would be recognized for games you helped create though.

Quote: "But in the game development world is an individual rcongnized or is it the company as a whole.
"

Usually the company, like i said, but on resume's ur recognized for that.

Quote: "If you suck at programming how can you get good enough for commercial game making or am I doomed."

lol, everyones a noob at some point, so of course you can get good enough and learn. Noone starts out already knowing how to program, hehe. You can get good enough by studying and practicing.

Quote: " Im better at Modeling than Programming but Id rather be a Programmer.Should I stick with what Im better at or should I go for what I want to be good at?"

If youd rather be a programmer, work towards it, go for what you want

Hope that helps, good luck .
