No I'm not new to DB but I've heard a little bit about DBO(Dark Basic Objects "i think that's what they're called") and I wanted to know the difference between DBO, X, and 3ds models. I've heard(ok read) that it can store not only UV cords but also textures, and maybe even animation. Unforturnetly, there hasn't been a reasonable update to the help files for DBP (as if it needs only to be updated and not rewritten from the ground up) so theres not much solid info about it's capabilites. Also, I vaguely remember someone mentioning a modeling program that uses DBO.

The reason I'm asking is because I am working on a Dark Basic level editor and would like to be able to save models as DBOs if it can realy do what I think it can do. Anyway, if you want to check out my level editor it's at:

DBO is Dark Basic's indigenous model format. All .X, .3DS or .DBO are simply specifications for how a model should be saved and retrieved. .DBO models have some benefits over .X models. While both can store mesh and animation information, .X files can only store a single set of UV coordinates and texture assignements. .DBO files on the other hand allow you to include several sets of UV coordinates and texture assingments for your model. That means you can do things like light mapping your model. There are quite a few pieces of software that work with .DBO files (besides Dark Basic) DeleD and FragMotion instantly jump to mind...

So how would I go about making my level editor able to import and export DBOs. Having the ability to multi-texture models in realtime within an actual DB environment would be lovely.

So, does anyone happen to have an export dll for DBP simply laying around.

dbo, wow I should stop using .x, I need to store non .x information in my models, too bad C4D or TrueSpace don't handle them, I guess I'll have to apply that all in DBP and save it

Yes Kids it's amazing what you can learn when you simply ask a little question. You see, there is a whole world out there just waiting to be discovered. All you got to do is ask for directions and go...Go...GO! So what are you still sitting there reading this for when you've got the 411 on DBOs? Go and use it already,... for Petes sake...........Don't you have a program to make or something?...your starting to bother me kid.....Get!...your giving me the creeps ya little rascal you.
