Trying probably isn't going to be enough, you have to learn the tools. Modeling programs have to be somewhat complex to allow people to create a endless diversity of objects or sceens.

If they where easier to use then the user would lose control over the modeling. The best thing to do is pick a modeler that you wish to learn and read tutorials (be it payed or free internet ones), help files, and most of all practice.

If your looking to make just landscapes or terrains geoscape3d is pretty decent for the price.

Nothing is hands down easy when it comes to computers. You have to take the time to actually learn it and put in the effort. Ive been using MS3D for well over 2 years and Im still learning it. It takes time and effort to get good at something, seems like your not putting forth enough of either.

Cart Shop?

It's great for making mesh. For lightmapping you'd best go with Gile[s] because Cshop won't take you anywhere.

It's M-E-G-A-T-O-N. NOT MEGATRON.

Milkshape is a bad choice if your looking to make an indoor game map.

I prefer to use GTKRadiant, then import the .MAP into Maya for editing it up before exporting as .X

but you could just compile as a popular BSP use it in DBP directly.
for indoor maps it's speed is awesome.

for external maps you can do what Unreal does, and switch between BSP and Static Objects.

Its alot easier than you'd think. For indoor maps, just make a normal object and reverse the verts. Instant room!

Outdoor maps are a bit trickier. Start with the Height Map Generator in Tools and work from there.

I pity the fool who thinks 1337 is cool!

I'm pretty sure he meant "I cant see how you would make a decent map".
