in 2003 Rob K said that
Quote: "Guy Savoie, the creator of the default editor for DarkBASIC Professional is no longer around due to personal problems, and TGC do not have access to the source code for the editor.

Unfortunately this means that any editor bugs in the default editor cannot be fixed, until a new official IDE is developed."

so i was wondering: will there be a new official IDE??

a while ago, when GuyS was still around, he asked me to test out v1.103, as i had sent him a lot of bug reports, especially for the function folding, which is what this update mainly fixes. well, considering that he's been gone a while and does not plan to work on the IDE any longer, i've decided to release the patch to the community, as i can't really find anything wrong with it. the following bugs have been fixed (was in the email he sent me when he gave me the patch to test):

i don't think there will be another patch after this one, so for those of you who are diehard official IDE users (like me), this is it

you can download it here: http://www.mtwirefree.net/kbilling/editor1_1_0_3.zip"

so there is nothing after this?

pretty much

TGC don't see any problems with the current IDE, and until they do they refuse to spent time / money on having a new one developed.
As the business aspect of the company feels it would be a waste of resources given a currently limited budget.

As Raven said - Unfortunately they've got other things to deal with, and the IDE is not exactly a priority (and even if they did get around to doing a new one, it would take a while).

Its a shame TGC didn't get Guy to give them the source code for the IDE (as part of a contact), then someone else could have fixed the bugs... I would have been willing to swat up on my Pascal/Delphi, especially with the lure of money

There are other IDE's around, so its not exactly the end of the world

By the way, there is a free skeleton system (can remember who does it, or what it's called), but from when I lasted looked at it, it does look very nice (and possibly easy to use), but looks terribly complicated to get it to use with DBPro.

i am really happy with the official IDE it is just that there are a few bugs that is quite annoying. like when folding selected lines the IDE crashes and like after i have saved i need to click on the screen in order to continue writing

apart from that, it is really great
but it's a bit boring to look at.. i like it when stuff is white and blue, this is green and gray.. im not complaining; it's the best IDE ive used, but i would also like to try something new.

I know there are some DB users who are making IDEs for dbpro, and it would be interesting to try them out.

does anyone know of a IDE that is close to finish or finished that i could test?

BlueIDE is pretty near finished (unless RobK disagrees )
Twilight is too...

The last unoffical update does fix a lot of problems - you shouldn't code without it...

I like it, it doesn't look bad, doesn't hurt the eyes (the correct mix between black and white -> grey)..
