Hi, guys!

I need a little bit of help from those who use them: what smileys are there that you use?

I'm working on a game, and I want the user the be able to type in "" (or whatever), and for the game to recognise this and display an appropriate image. Now, I've got no problems with the coding, I just have no clue as far as smileys go. Lend me hand, someone?

I know a few, but certainly not all that are used.

Oh, that worked well - how was I supposed to know this forum already does what I'm working on? Darn.

Uhh, you know what I mean, right?

would be quite simple to scan for ... however replacing in position would require a equal space text, unless you check for pixels

i mean all you would do is say check the line for say ":" then you'd put in ... if len$(bufferString$) = ")" or something so you'd have alot of lil ifs, you then use that to delete the : ) but keep the spaces then count the letters to the position set the smiley to say 8px wide/letter the position like that with the paste sprite

Oh, yeah - the coding's easy (and done), Raven, it's just that I don't actually ever use smileys myself, so I don't know what sort of things people type.

Right, I've turned them off in my profile, so here's the ones I do know about:

:/ :0 (and variations with ; and 8)

'_' ^_^ ~_~

Any more? Sorry I'm so smiley illiterate...

I've got an odd feeling that it's only changed how the smileys are perceived from my user account, rather than stopping me from using smileys at all. Oh, this is getting difficult...

Perhaps I should just release a beta and let people flame me for not giving them all the smileys they like...

there are literally thousands of variations ... i think stick to simple ones, as long as you add a ledgend somewhere people won't mind what it is

If you have any messangers or visit chatrooms just search for "emoticons" (as that is what they're called I believe) and it'll give u listings of the ones supported and how to make them.

Remember that they all have variations with ans without noses like
: - ) OR just : )

some have an extra character such as : ' - ( for crying.

I would list them all but I only really use : ) : ( and : D

If you all grovelled and begged, Rich might re-post the link that showed you all the possible smileys available.

I think some are fussy about having a space before them... let's try the dog for example or crying? !

Rich
