I'm paying a professional modeller to create models for my game. He is using 3DS Max 7. He's sending me the models in *.3ds format.

Here is an example of one of the models he has sent me already:

This model has 7 jpeg files. Two of these are a bump map and a specular map respectively.

I've been converting the models into *.x format for loading into my game. I've then tried loading both the *.3ds and the *.x files in 3D Canvas and DBPro. In both cases all the texture files are in the same directory as the model file.

This is what the result looks like:

[href]http://photobucket.com/albums/v423/d3fxyh/?action=view¤t=white.png[/href]

It seems clear that the model geometry is being correctly converted. However, it also looks like most of the texture information is being lost. Plus, for those two textures which are still being applied, they are both not stretched properly and look dreadful.

I'm not really a modeller so I wanted to ask for help from the community.

HELP!

Ok. I've just had a fiddle around in the *.x file using notepad. I discovered that the names of some of the *.jpg files were corrupted.

This is obviously a bit better but I'm not getting proper texture clamping - also I can't possibly manually edit all the specular and bump maps into the model.

I'm stuck. H E L P.

I fixed it by remapping all the messed up texture files myself in 3D Canvas. I would have preferred not to have had to do that, but in the worst case scenario, it had to be me. And it was.

I refuse to be lectured by a rabbit! I, sir, happen to be a bear. And a bear is a mammal.
