I was just messin around in Max and made some scenes I was trying to learn some good simple texturing.

This first scene makes no sense but I was just bored and playing around. Its a scene of aliens in a Mushroom meadow collecting crystals(interesting what you come up with when your bored)

[EDIT] this scene has been improved by adding better clouds and a more rounded horizon [/EDIT]

Next is a water drop I really like the way It looks. It might be to tranparent though.

Finally I made a glass and tried to add condensation but It doesnt look the way I wanted to. But I think the glass looks alright.

Well thats it. Just wondering what you guys think of these scenes. Maybe you can share some hints to make my renders look better!

The first pic is VERY trippy.

I also like the raindrop.

Thanks.

The Mushroom scene was fun to make and I think it turned out pretty good. the rain drop is pretty cool too. you would never guess thats a cloud texture on the rain drop.(with some other add-ons of course)

For the glass I'd say it could be lathed a lil better but looks cool anyway, I like the water droplet, pretty nice

About the clouds, I know a very good 3DS max cloud tutorial, its in one of my magazines, so no website, considering the magazine doesn't have back issues, if you're interested tell me and I'll make the tutorial on my forum or website

your glass looks a bit lop-sided, nice material though.

Here's a glass i did. dont ask how i did the water, the file was lost in a crash and i haven't been able to recreate it that well yet.

@Seppuku Geijutsu: ya your right I ended up just using a line to lathe insted of the CV curve tool thing or whatever. Thanx for the c&c. Ill try to improve my glass models.Yes could you plz make a cloud tutorial. Im not very good at 3ds maxs enviroment effects. I know how to make them but makeing them look good is my problem.

@Phaelax: your right the glass is off center from the base and the part that holds water is too small. didnt realize it was so messt up. Your glasses are amazing perfect shape. Did you use a reference cause I did mine off the top of my head. Your water is amazing too.
To bad you cant recreate it. But thats alright sometimes I have a hard time recreating like that water I used a cloud texture but then I deleted that cloud texture and now no cloud texture looks as good on the water drop model.

I created my wine glasses from the top of my head, and a girl shaking her finger at me over my shoulder constantly until i perfected it. It's quite simple really. Draw 1 side of the shape, as if you were looking at it directly from the side, using whatever line or nurbs shape you want. Then lathe. Remember that the lathe will rotate the shape around its origin, so make sure the origin is in the correct spot. Here's a screenshot from max5. The white line is my shape, and what lathe will do is take that shape and spin it around its axis to form a solid object like the one i show rendered.

Nah, not too much work. I'll do one and put it on my website on wednesday/thursday, thankfully the CDrom that came with the magazine should have the images on there, just to make life easier

[EDIT]

Its intermediate level and will take about an hour to do
