Bridgestone is doing extremely well considering only 1 top team is using them and hence the only top team providing testing data to help improve them. This point also makes the whole Michellin thing even more embarassing for them.
Anyway, Ferrari rightly said that why should they pay for bad decisions made by the Michellin teams in terms of what tyres to bring to the GP. Other suggestions offered were to slow down in the corner, which kinda defeats the perpose of racing, to use different tyres from what they ran in qualifying, which would break the rules or to freight in a totally different compound of tyre from France. The proposal offered by the Michellin teams was to add a chicane between turns 12 and 13, to slow down them down sufficiently and to promote the Bridgestone runners to the top positions on the grid.
This also brings Ferrari way back into the battle for the driver championship, but more significantly, the constructors championship. I hope as a Ferrari fan, that because they are now back in with a good chance, the team will lift.
Bleh, in the end this has punched a massive hole in the Formula 1 market, especially in the US. It will be interesting to see if anything else unfolds in the coming days or weeks.
