Edit: There is a spelling error in here, and I am not gonna fix it!

This is mostly directed towards those who are meant to know and understand the english language as it is the main language spoken in the country your in. If your from Lithuania, then it is understandable and semi-acceptable.

Why the hell is their a need to type in "internet shorthand"? Does typing:

1) "Will you come over tonight"

take much more time than:

2) "Wil U cum over 2nite?" (heh, I said a bad word).

Lets see, the average person types around I'd say 20wpm. Lets say the average word is 4 letters. Thats 80 letters per minute (not including spaces). Lets see, sentence 1 has 22 letters not including spaces, and sentence 2 has 16 letters. Your saving 6 letters. So figure it out, how much time are you really saving? Do you really need that extra 1 second or so? Is macys having a sale and if you don't get thier 3 seconds early your going to be late and miss it? Maybe all your saving is the humiliation of not being able to spell? Well there are some good damn solutions to that.

1) Get a damned spell checker

2) Get a damned dictionary

3) Go to school and pay attention

Edit: 4) Read over your posts and make sure of things spelling checkers don't catch...

Of course this is only for those whom have the native language of english, or those well adept in the english language even though its not your native language etc.

Anyway, I was just trying to waste time while HL2 redownloaded (HL2 Silver package)...

Well put. However:

if they've been hanging around aol and think they're l337:
a) they deserve what they get
b) it hurts just thinking about it... l337 aol users... ow

Quote: "Maybe all your saving is the humiliation of not being able to spell?"

Or maybe they can't type... they have teh permanent l337itis.

Now how long will it be before someone replies in "internet shorthand" because they think they're being original/funny?

Lol, wasn't suggesting you did but there's always some enterprising noob that thinks they'll be popular by getting a sticky and set about looking for any possible way of getting one. Just like I did in Work in Progress .

A scandal in dbville
It kinda irks me a lil that people claim it's just AOL users who do this... it isn't. very few actualy AOL users ACTUALLY use AIM or rather the AOL Built-in Equivilent which seems to be a good 2 years behind the technology curve.. yeah way to make your paying customsers feel like they're getting thier money's worth currently in deperate financial trouble AOL.

Personally if it weren't for a 2 people out of literally hundreds I know who use it, Aim would've been in the recycle bin quicker than a nerd walking into 1 Microsoft Way and proclaiming that "L1nuX Roxor5 73h b19 0n3!!!1111" .. though that would be definately an entertaining 20minutes

And believe me long before AOL even had chatrooms, retards were using '1337' in MsnChat. About the best you could do is find a room with adults then you'd only have a 50:50 chance of some retard thinking thier cool or hip doing it.

It's like "Dude, your 35 living at home with your mom wearing a T-Shirt with something like 'Genius At Work' on it ... when the only problem you've got to the bottom of recently was how to empty a packet of twinkies. So you've given up being cool long before the mullet went out of style".

So I think it's kinda stupid how every picks on AOL, much like they pick on Microsoft; and how they make fun of McDonalds, or any other large corporate entity... And NO I DON'T WANT FRIES WITH MY RANT.

Sides what the heck is so special about this Rant that makes it worthy of it's own Thread? Seriously, some of us rant several times a day. You don't see me believing I deserve a Weblog or Thread for the individual random throughts that pop into my head.

Face it no one is REALLY interested. Hell they probably got bored reading this one long before now. No one really reads entire posts anyways.. you sit there skimming to get the ghist then low-and-behold often a flame war breaks out over the fact that very few people here have attention spans longer than a newt.

moral of the story, people are generally retards. deal (preferably with a big bottle of JD, and some blunt objects to throw)

Please do

Grammar isn't my high point if you haven't noticed.

Edit - I'd like to point out i've checked it and there is only 1 spelling mistake which I have admited too. The rest would be grammar mistakes, in which I had never said anything about grammar once in the post But do point them out. Unlike some people, I like to learn from my f-ups so I can fix them later.

hehe, do did I Actually agreed with it. A couple of minor, almost trivial counterpoints...

a) it's that we unfairly pick on aol as being filled with HPBs who think they're l337 because it's funny Aol, l337 people using aol, thinking they're l337... I know l337 is everywhere, yeah, but where's the humor in that??

b) I wanna go work at microsoft, so I'm not picking on them... last thing I want is to take over Paul Allen's job when he retires and then find a redicious scandal in the newspapers or something... "new senior strategy adviser for M$ used to be a linux fanboy and burned microsoft flags" Not that I do, of course Windows all the way!

That's a there.

But I can cope with that You are right. Leet and text shorthand is not necessary. And think about it...adding a couple of seconds when writing saves a couple of seconds multiplied by everyone who tries to decipher your 1337/TXT crap!

Eric T:

It is not a matter of the person being lazy or stupid but a matter of the person not realizing the importence of correct typing simply because he/she is not that involved with the internet, forums or computers.

Alot of intelligent people I know who write in short hand would simply read over your post and go "Yeah. Some fuc*ing internet nerd probably". So you can't really blame them.

Work at a call centre for a few years, and you will soon agree that the majority of the net "retards" do, in fact, use AOL. And they'll mock it in public, but go home later and worship it. I can't explain it scientifically.

It's a squirrel? I spent a while looking at it and couldn't really come to a decision. At first I thought it was a power cable, then I noticed the Alpha thingy in the middle, then I just decided to look for something better to do. Like counting the black pixels in my posts.

heh, well my brother doesn't get anyone like that.. maybe it's just Americans.

Did once hear of a woman who thought that he computer was dirty so she decided to wash it. And I mean with a bottle of Fairy and a scrubbing brush, then was very conserned that it went bang! when she turned it on.

You know the ironic thing is, the DELL Warrenty doesn't actually have any presidence for such accidental damage. So she actually got a new computer from it, which had a bloody great sticker put on the side by the Technical Engineer reading 'Water-proof!' and penned above it in red market was !NOT! heh, it looked pretty funny.

iirc the same woman ended up killing that machine somehow too.
