This is my first try at a woman in Blender(without using make human :p)
And yes I was unable to make a head so I just made a odd looking helmet. I started by following the Joan of Arc tutorial.
Please give me some suggestions the hip area is completely screwed up and I think I may have to remodel it to fix it.

Really nice. To much specular going on in the materials though.

The waist looks like it's been crushed in with a sledge hammer.

I think the over-all model is much too thin.

Thats what I thought while I was following the tutorial but thats what the reference was like . I couldnt' figure out the feet either, I think it may be that they aren't pointing inward.
Here it is with a little less spec:

I would tuck the tummy in a hair, then straighten her back since the curvature seems excessive. Also she seems to have a case of ghetto booty, may just be the back curvature making it seem larger than it is though.

Very good overall though, you really got the shape down one of these days I need to work on organic modeling.

it looks like....

The Ticks Girlfriend!!!

and if that is leather or lycra, that is the appropriate ammount of specular

put a little bulge on the front of the stomach down to the crotch, not much, but all women have one. that'll help round out the waistline

Ack Thpppppt!

High quality models and graphics, low prices. Graphics for the rest of us.

Ok I'll work on the stomach and go back to the original specular. Maybe I'll put some ventilation in the helmet too :p. Never thought about breathing good thing im not a clothes designer.
Thanks for the critique keep it coming!

Update:
Added more of a bulge to stomach, some vents in helmet, less curve in back, and better feet. Also testing the skeleton. Im not sure what to do about the armor it is in the way of the arms and while I could have it transform with the shoulder, that wouldn't make it seem like very sturdy metal would it? One problem is the elbows where the arm gets horribly thin looking when I turn it too much,

And another render:

I hope to start the animation by Sunday, saturday I will spend planning and making any props or fixing up the model.

Nice..

I still think the specular is little wrong.
Maybe not a question of to much or to little but the circle from the specular is to defined.
it sticks out to much. And her skin is showing on the top piece of her armor in the render.

Master Chief,

Yes, definitely soften the specular on the armour a bit. When are you going to replace the mask with the head you modeled recently? Don't forget about the butt, and its oversizedness. Very good job, overall.

Head? I modelled a head? Where!!! Oh I see I get the hint...I'll give it another try. I didn't really understand the head part of the tutorial I was following so I'll have to figure out a different way. Ok spec is going down, butt is shrinking, head is growing. I'll get back to you all tomorrow.
I'll miss the mask and it's bouncy little antennae though. You cant' tell but I set it up so that they bounce around when she jumps or walks.

Tons of thanks for the comments its helping me a lot
I have a tendency to stop a project without doing any tweaking like this.

She looks pretty danged good... The only things I notice are:

I'd angle her breasts out a hair. If you look at a lady's breasts, you can draw a straight line from her nipples, centered through the breast mass to her spine.

Secondly, you need to look at the vertice weighting around her elbows so that she doesn't get that odd crease when her arm is bent.

Next, her shoulders need to be a hair broader so that they are at least as wide as her hips.

Lastly, connect her deltoid to her pectoral muscle If you look at a lady's chest, you'll see that her pectoral muscle (the one the breasts rest on) will connect in a smooth curve to her deltoid (the muscle at the cap of the shoulder).

Don't worry too much about everyone's complaints about her waist. Obviously you are not attempting a life-like. female form. You are using exagerated proportions... Heck for that matter it isn't even that exagerated.

Beyond that, I'm just curious... How does she breathe?

yey a mac user!!!! *ENVY* not too bad for tutorial model. Good luck with the head tutorial, personally for the eyes I'd use the pixar effect, as seens in blender tutorials too.

She reminds me of the Gimp on Pulp Fiction...apart he was a guy, maybe his girlfriend?

I guess you can't see it in the picture I posted but there is now a very small slit in the mouth area where some air could get in, so she will be alive for my animation
Working on head and the other suggestions now.

Please some help on the head! I have made the basic shape but it looks completely wrong unless she is some sort of alien. What do I need to change? I can't get it to look even remotely like the reference I was looking at.

Help appreciated.

More work on the head. Added textures, and some odd anime style hair that I used for a different model. I hope to replace the hair if I can do something better and there are still problems with the head itself.

Any more critique I really need some for this head.

im not an expert or anything but i think the base of the nose needs to be wider. and the bottom half of the face (below nose) is a bit too far forward. looks like i might have a leno thing going on there.

I think you really ought to use a set of reference photos or drawings for modelling the head. That makes it easier to get the proportions right.
