Try the 3D Chat forum as this has nothing to do directly with DBPro.

you set the UV map AFTER you assign the texture to a group

Check out the DB Freebie Archive: http://lysergium.net/dbfree/ thanks to DARKGuy

Baggers, you ever played that great game called Sam and Max? One of my favorites...

Anyways, keemo, make sure you have made a texture and are using a valid image type (like jpg, bmp, png...), and then just make sure you select a group, not a group of faces. When you choose select mode, make sure the "Group" button on the bottom is selected, then select you group, and click assign. Also, if you don't have it already, you may want to download the "Tile Texture Mapper" and after you click assign, try using the tile texture mapper, and see if that works.

And keaz is right.

CornStalks: Sam 'n' Max is one of the best games ever! Damn funny and a nice challenge aswell. Not as long as the monkey island games, but great in its own right.
Ah the characters were great, did you watch the TV series aswell ?

Cornstalks, I need something that maps tiles to UV, but I can't find any reference to this "Tile Texture Mapper". Specifically, I want to paint a bunch of tiles onto a sphere but nothing I can find (for free, anyway) will do it.

I've been trying (stupid, newbie that I am) to map a 2048x1024 image on a sphere and wondering why it looked so awful! Clearly the reason is that DBPro is reducing it to 128x64 and mapping the result.

What would be really useful is software to take an image and then divvy it up into smaller 64x64 pixel tiles to map onto the polys on a model's surface. That way, the size of the mapped image would determine the amount of detail.

And Keemo, is it really necessary to be so rude?

I firmly believe God is a teapot orbitting the sun. Go on, prove me wrong!

The "Tile Texture Mapper" is found at http://milkshape3d.com/, and then click on "Downloads" it is in the PlugIns section, and is 7th from the top. If you want a UV Mapping thing though, you'll have to use something else. Besides, just about every UV mapper costs a little bit of $$. And also keemo, not to be rude or anything, but have you tried MilkShapes forums yet? I think they would know more than us.

^the tile texture mapper isnt very good. sometimes it messes up vertices. and when you use it, it automatically remaps the group THEN tiles it, so you cant map it yourself first to make sure its not stretched out

Quote: "and when it came to pressing the (assign) button , nothing happened , any suggestions ?"

make sure you have a group selected (select the group in the groups tab, using the select button, dont just select all vertices). then press assign. then press ctrl t. ther will be many tutorials on this part. off you go

if it still doesnt work... i donno. you should be able to do this in trial version

If you want images/media/software hosted, log in (with ws ftp or something) http://lysergium.net/public with the username public, password public

Suggestions needed .

yes exactly , how did you get the eye brows to be in their place , and not somewhere near the cheeks ? \how did you get in order ? cos once i attach skins , they are attached randomly , so that eyes are in the nose's place , etc . \would be great if you talk me through how you modelled that character .

keemo1000@hotmail.com ... you know wh@t to do .

try using another uv app like lithunwrap which is free, the problem with the milkshape uv mapper is that it cant export textures, so if your having to texture a face for example without the uv map outlines then its very time consuming and nearly impossible on complex objects, the main problem with the milkshape uv mapper is that it can only uv map from a single projection whereas lith & others have much more features such as, box mapping, cylindrical etc etc, that mean that its possible to effectively uv map virtually any model.

I agree with Dark with one exception, you can map with the built in tools from Milkshape its just alot (i mean ALOT) more work than with programs like lithunwrap....(and not as robust)

To map with MS (milkshape) you are going to need to break your models down into smaller groups...in my example (face w/hair) the face, head, earrings and hair are all separate groups within the model...once you build your bmp, png, whatever your using for the image apply to all....(you should get your random texturing)

How to map in MS
-> select one of your groups (ie. the face)
open the texture cord window (ctrl-t) in MS
the first drop menu on right, select the group you have selected (ie. face)
Under that drop menu is how you want it mapped - top, front, bottom, etc.., try Front....
Under that drop menu is <remap> click it
hit <Select> and grab the whole area, you should now have all the vertexes of that group highlighted (red)

From this point you can manipulate the entire group -> move, rotate, scale, etc.. OR you can manipulate each vertex independently to tweak your map to correct proportions

let me know if I can be of any further assistance....

Try re-installing or updating or something, then try putting the serial through.
