Hopefully the title got you the right idea. I want to map a texture (or rather lots of little texture blocks) onto the subdivisions of a sphere in something like Blender and I understand that UV unwrapping has something to do with this. I am NOT an artist!
Chopping up the texture into blocks isn't hard - PSP should do that, but how or what do I use to get a sphere flattened out so I can allocate the right blocks to the right polys?
Reason being is I'm trying to paint an Earth model e.g. like Orbiter and it has to be done with lots of small textures otherwise DBPro shrinks the texture down to, oh say, 256x256 and it looks blinking awful!
OK, I know this is probably basic stuff and yes, I have tried the search but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for and the dude I rely on for help in these matters has gone and got a job desinging car models for games!!! Bummer.
I found a program called UVMapper which is free, but I can't even seem to make the thing work. Oh dear. (Note to self: keep to programming).
As always, help, gratefully received.
I firmly believe God is a teapot orbitting the sun. Go on, prove me wrong!
