I'm very worried it's going to have a certain crappy 'twist' that became obvious after watching both trailers and would be a real insult to the author. I hope it doesn't.

i think jimmy knows im not one to ban people straight away and he knows when hes out of line, even tho his humour can be rough.

I thought it was great. Typical Spielberg family fluff/rainbow love subplot could have been left out, but other than that, the story and effects were terrific.

I'm both looking forward to, and dreading seeing it.

Thing is, I'd really like it to have been dark and moody, like the Jeff Wayne soundtrack, but I've got a feeling it'll be fairly tame. The original movie kinda sucked, the old B&W version was very B-Movie.

It looks good, going to see it this weekend. I saw Batman Begins the other night and wow, that was freakin awesome. Best film I've seen in a VERY long time!

I think its gonna suck

Speilberg never follows the original plot-lines of stories (if their remakes), so this will definately be a pile of poo.

The fact it is all 'americanized' ticks me of too.

Speilberg tried to persaude the audiance in an interview that H.G Wells wrote the book to 'rebel against British colonialism'. The fact he was in the British Army for about 5 years of his life makes that comment pretty much a load of crap.

SOME VAGUE SPOILERS

I saw it! By the way, everyone, the Machines die the same way in the books, so the ending is pretty faithful.

It's darker than you may expect with hints of paeodophillia from Ogilvie, people shooting eachother for Tom's car as well as the people getting their blood drained for the red weed. There is some pretty good comments about the human condition, but not too thick.

It is pretty close to the book though, the invasion part is close enough, as close as it could have been, retold nowadays, but the characters and storyline of the guy looking for Carrey etc... is not there at all. But then again, was that the best bit of the book? No.

8 / 10 - the best thing I've seen in a while, and it is 'darker' than you may think.

Damn straight

Was a menace to society driving home as I kept comparing it to various other comic book conversions in my head and it kept topping all of them.

If WotW is anything near that good I will be a very happy moviegoer.

Should be going to see it in a few hours...

I think i'll still like the old War of the worlds....im getting sick of these damn remakes.

The old War of the worlds movie was awsome (for its time) and i liked it.

Just saw it, very good movie. The ending could of used some help but over all it's not a waste of money. It's a must see in the theaters though, unless you have a kick ass stereo system, the mother tripod unleashes some mind numbing sounds. I really like Tom Cruise as a blue collar worker and not as his typical super hero persona.

Yeah, almost as cool as the Jeff Wayne version - 'ooooolaaaaaa!!!!'...
He's right though, the tripod sounds owned in the cinema.

I just saw it yesterday, not as good as Batman or StarWars imo but still good. I think they tried to make it scary and it is a bit but I'd would have liked to see more action. Some annoying bits too, not as good as I was hoping for.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was ok but should have been much better. Ending was a pile of poo and screaming little girl deserved a punch or two to shut her up.

Now Batman Begins was altogether a better film and I enjoyed all of it.

Next on my list is Fantasic Four in a few weeks, looks great!

Christian Bale is easily one of the best actors in his era in Hollywood today. Not to mention he's been in some fantastic films recently. Tch tch

He's a good actor no doubt, but imo he just does not look or sound like batman at all, it just doesn't look right Maybe it was just the trailer... i'm gonna see the movie in a few days, hoping it will be good
