If I order it today/tonight will the download be available by monday?

Or earlier?

And im going to back it up on CD when I download it... Is that ok?

oh and one more... How much faster is it at 2D than DarkBASIC Pro?

Im getting it because its cheaper than BlitzMax... Mainly... And because I dont want to give money to the Dark Side...

I could'nt say how quickly you'd get it, but remember there's a demo version so you could start work right away and upgrade when your purchase comes through. I doubt UWDesign would object to you storing a backup copy on CD.

PlayBasic is faster than DBPro for 2D by a very decent margin - but also there's more 2D functionality - DBPro's 2D stuff is quite lacking really, but PlayBasic is uniquely designed to take the best from the hobbyist languages and be fast as well. If I was writing a 2D game I'd use PlayBasic over DBPro, and I'm somewhat of a DBPro fanboy it has to be said.

BlitzMax is a downright joke of a language that no living organism should have to use.

Lol... Cant agree more there... Having to declare a variable just to load an image is an outrage...

Nice to hear its faster and has more commands.. Im thinking of making a 2D platformer see, and well DBPro's sprite commands are limited at best.. I wrote my own map system though... So that should be easy to port over right? (Does it have commands for reading pixel colours?)

Anyway thanks...

Edit: Ill download the Trial Version and see what I make of it...

Ahh, you haven't looked into PlayBasic code?

It's very very very similar to DB, UW managed to transfer my DBPro puzzle game into PlayBasic in no time at all so it's an ideal changeover. Just remember good old DBPro when you feel like making a 3D game .

Hmm, Im impressed...

The language is fast... Seems perfect for what I want... Ill probably order it monday though, because I doubt I will get it before monday even if I ordered today anyway.... Oh and the platform example is pretty cool

To my knowledge TGC ship orders during business hours. Not sure about digital products though.

Making personal backups is _encouraged_. Not only the installer package, but your purchase info also. Always keep your receipt !

That's not really the point. The concept behind PlayBasic was to build a feature rich but basic language which focuses on 2D programming, not just rendering. So the backbone of PB is really the visibility / collision systems, mapping etc that are all built in.

It would be largely unnecessary to port, and probably hinder performance to manually render maps. While you could do it that way, it's really not recommended. As there's already a mapping library/camera system built in.

Yes absolutely download the demo and have a _good_ mess around (for a week or more) before purchasing. Remember the above though, utilize the built in features the most you can.

You'll have to think a little bit outside the box though.

Thanks, Ive had a play around for a bit now, like I said before im impressed by the usuability hear... and the similarity of the commands with DBPro.. Its good for DBPro users ,

Another thing im also impressed with... The price! You have a better system here than BlitzMax... But... At half the price!

Hello,

When I compare PlayBasic vs. DBPro (for 2D), I cannot recommend Playbasic more, ... it's syntax is well thought out, consistent, has wonderfull IDE, good Help system, ... it's just more Professional.
