I recently got 3ds max 7 for a 30-day trial, and none of the integrated help for it worked - so I just sat around and tried to make it work and figure it all out myself...

basically, this is what I've managed to cook up in 27 and it's not even finished yet

could any modellers give me some general criticisms on this, be brutal with it...

It's meant to be sort of like a machine gun with a long barrel (based on the M4) with a -- "different" type of magazine.

Is this OK for a first attempt or should I just admit 3D modelling isn't something for me...

...maybe one day I'll finish a project

Pretty nice for all primitives. I suggest if go through buying you should learn the Modeling side of Max and not just the primitives.
but really good for not knowing what the hell your doing(as in the help didnt work and you figured it out your self). My first object ever was a Mace made of primitives and then I animated it this was in Gmax.
yours is alot better than my first object.

btw. these guys are right you should post a .jpg

Very hard to pick out on the black background - so I did a print screen as well:

Print screen:

Rendered:

they might be quite small though... if they are, I'll do a jpg as well, but I always did prefer to use bmp files...

I've not changed the camera angle, perhaps that's something else I can do in my final 21 hours of the trial...
