It's a simple question!

What program was the animated Alienware alien created in?

This is the only USEFUL animated 3d character model i've ever used or found. I would like to make my own characters in a similar format with all the seperate animations embedded within the single model file. But I can't find anyway of doing it. I can't even extract the animations from the alien model!

Also, what types of animation does milkshape use? I've tried exporting a weighted mesh (A darkmatter1 model) and skeleton from XSI Mod Tool in .XSI format into Milkshape3d but no animation loads in with it (even with "animation" ticked in the cute little import dialog box).

Some direction would be much, much appreciated - Especially if it's from the creator. (Otherwise it'll just be stick men without animation running around... )

Hi Jas,
It was created in Milkshape 3D,

Essentially it is a .3DS file converted to .X (DirectX 7)
3ds models can be hierarchially linked so that mesh parts are in a parent-Child relationship. This means that if you rotate an upper arm the lower arm mesh moves in relation to it.
The whole 3DS file records the positions of each limb at every frame.

There are some import options in Milkshape, but generally files saved as MS3D (the native format) will work best.

The trouble is that there are two kinds of .X files - the later (DX8) ones support boned animations. Whereas the earlier ones don't.
I suggest saving a hierarchial model as a 3DS file and using the tools in Dark Basic to convert it to .X

Regards,
Simon

Many thanks for the info Simon.

Thank explains why I couldn't use the animation!

Just for the record could you confirm that you used just Milkshape3d to do all the modelling and animation?

How did you texture it? Ultimate Unwrap?
