Its not in the Rockies - about 2.5 hours north west of Kamloops.

Stayed there - didn't see any wildlife, unless you count the tourists...
Personally I found Jasper and Banff a bit too commercialised
Our final route was Vancouver - Hope - (Kamloops) - Clearwater - Jasper - Banff
(only stopped at kamloops, didn't stay).

You're right about the small town feel. I was expecting a dense downtown etc. but it just seemed like we'd passed through ome staging post. I seem to remember there was a truck stop next to a butcher's advertising "pork butt steaks" and a retail park. I suppose on the highway you just skirt it though
