Haven't seen too many people who enjoy making level editors, i find that to be the most boring part of any project.

'Issues' has practically the same definition as 'problems'.

Do not try correct my sentences.

Yeah but "I have issues" is a well known phrase and "I have problems" isn't. And actually, 'issues' suggest personal problems with character and identity, 'problems' could suggest financial or work related problems that you must solve.

Sorry, I had this conversation with somebody else recently

I'd agree with you on AI and level editors - I like giving life to characters, it's great seeing them go from idle to moving around and doing stuff, although it's not always easy

Believe me, small arcade games are a lot more fun to code than RPGs and FPSs. Man those bastards are tough.

Too right; but 2D is not without it's problems. I assume 2D (arcade).

Things that involve a lot of data processing. And tings that are very logical - like compilers.

Basically anything that takes very simple code and applies it in such a way it looks very fancy. Reursion is especially nice

Whatever involves math, or anything related to RTS games.
I'm assuming you meant DB code only?

certainly not physics! I like coding:
AI
Compilers/Interpretors
Emulators

mostly low-level stuff for processors other than the x86 (ugh). And the SH4 is the most amazingest thing EVAAAR!!!

But "I have issues" could also mean you have copies of The Big Issue to sell (bought my first ever big issue the other day, never seen such a waste of paper in all my life but I spose it's more about the people selling 'em than the people buying).

Anyway, back onto subject, I like menus and anything simple. Also like just testing out small chunks of code if I'm trying to work out how to make decent explosions or something similar.

no, run-time SH4 opcode translation is the most amazing thing to code, silly.

I don't think he was joking.

.. Well maybe he was. I quite enjoy programming physics myself. Its very satisfying to see something respond to your input in a very...shall we say... physics way..

No?

I'm with David... I like to code logic things.

Something that seems hard, or trying to create patterns out of seemingly unrelated data.
'tis great fun

That's why I usually get bored after I've done it, cos programming the simple stuff just isn't fun!

Yay for logic, when you have to do some weird work around or special input thing or whatever and you put all this beautiful code into a function with a couple tricky parameters and it does everything you need it to do and more. That's beautiful.
I think designing all the parts of a game's tech is fun. It would probably go with the level editor thing, because you have to organize how you'll read in level data, load the media, and at the same time calculate LOD or whatever you're trying to do, and you have this beautiful branching architecture that eventually builds up to:
SetDisplay()
GameLoop()
CleanUp()

I find applications which will save me time in the long run most rewarding. I find games fairly tricky though, i can code the functions its just using them which is the problem!

I like to code little useless programs that make patterns, like trippy spirals and anything that looks amusing.

I like to code NPC handling, like animals. e.g. I added a vulture in Lonewolf that circles around the enemies, I like stuff that you can develop quite organically, like stuff that does'nt affect the main engine, just gets along with it.

I really like the feeling I get when I've been stuck on something for ages and ages and then slowly I stat to work out what I need to do and everything works out. Ofcourse I don't bother remming so an hour later I don't have a clue why the code works.
