I'm trying to write a FPS and need a nice level editor.
MatEdit and LevelMaker3d are horrible for this, and CS would be awesome, but I can't afford it.
Does anyone know a cool Level Editor that's free? The Half-life Editor won't work for me, because I don't have Half-Life. Any Ideas?

Any of the typical FPS map editors won't be of use to you unless you have a way of converting .map to .x or .3ds. gameSpace has a plugin for that, but the whole package is mucho expensive. All the level editors end up being is a 3d modeller with prefabs and nodes for FPS engines.

That being said there are a couple good ones for DB, JTEdit and DeleD. You can find them in the Game Programming Kit for Beginners thread.

Hi there
I recommend getting a simple model maker, a simple light map maker AND a texture maker. You will need all these 3 otherwise you MAY become disappointed with the outcomes. For all these things, as BearCDP says, check out the Game Programming for Beginner's thread. Since DarkBASIC isn't a commercial game making PACKAGE per say, you won't find those tools coming along with it to suit its needs. DB is pretty much only the core engine (like the QuakeII or Unreal engine you might have heard of). Halflife uses an SDK which comes with everything you need to make everything for the game.

Hope that helps

DeleD, actually, is quite useful... I'm using it myself. It's awesome
