So im really liken blender. I cant understand how its free, looks just as powerful and polished as max. Anyway, I have a couple quick blender qs if anyone knows.

1.) How do you export your model in a way DBPro can load it as a object. Right now when I "export" and save as a directx or directx8, the only way I can load said model into DBPro is to load it as a mesh.

2.) This seems so simple but I cant figure it out. How do you specify an objects position? I know how to drag it with the mouse, but lets say I wanted to position the object at EXACTLY 0,0,0, how would I? Also how would I offset the mesh so its lower/higher, but the OBJECT position stays the same (0,0,0).

Thanks in advance

DAMNIT looks like blender doesnt export vertex colors when exporting directX (that or dbpro isnt loading them). Sigh any Blender experts out there have any idea how to get a simple modem (a cube even) into DBPro WITH vertex colors?

you would prolly use a tool in blender to save the vertex colors onto the uv map or sumthing like that. as for offsetting the mesh u can do that in blender. w/e the orgin is at is the center of the object when exported (usually)

What? No the colors are part of the FVF they dont have anything to do with your texture/uv map.

I know you CAN offset the mesh, im just wondering HOW you can specify a specific coord. Like lets say I wanted to position the object at 0,0,0. I can grab it, and drag it, and I see the numbers indicating a world coord, but I cant manually enter values for those numbers. I looked all over the buttons, gui, im prolly just overlooking something.

*Edit found it. If you hit the 'n' key it brings up a position window... n for nposition, or ntransform properties.

Still need a way to export vert colors. Ive tryed some plugins that export 3ds, md3 md2 and non of them export vert colors. If anyone can fine a blender plugin that exports vert colors in some DBPRO compatible format youll be my hero.

i know they are not part of the uvmap. but in wings when i used vert colors (long long time ago) i had to save them to the uvmap first. then i found the wonderful art of texturing... you should too lol

Theres things you cant do with textures that you can do with vertex colors/alpha.

So does anyone know of any other importer/exporter plugins for 3ds? Ive found one so far, and it seems very dated.

To position the mesh press 'n'. Not sure about exporting, dont' program much any more.

Am I an Idiot...or is everyone else just really smart?
