A conversion of the classic game Logical. Taps drop various coloured balls onto the track. You can collect these balls into your spinners. Clicking a ball forces it out of the spinner back onto the track. On some levels all you need do is collect 4 balls of the same colour in one spinner and then that spinner is complete - do the same for all spinners on level and you win. On some levels spinners need filling in colours in the right order (represented by traffic lights), and in some you need the right colour in the right slot of each spinner! All of this while the tap keeps dispensing balls and the clock runs down. Frantic and fantastic once you master it.

Make no mistake about it - you really need to learn the "rules" to understand this game, but once you do there is a real gem of a game in here! When you've a stack of balls rolling around, spinners twisting madly, and the taps wobbling to the point of falling off - well, it's just damn hectic and fun

I genuinely played this for hours. Actually, a bloody Microsoft AntiSpam check at 2am in the morning caused my session (level 12!) to crash So Van - please add in a "skip to level" feature please

My comments would be - those help screens that appear between each level are VITAL at the start for new players!! So much so that I started looking at them in Windows Explorer just to learn the rules of the game. At first I thougt you had to match the colours shown on the taps, then realised that meant the colour of the ball to drop, then had no idea what the traffic lights were, etc It's been years since I played the original! So those help files should have been first up mate

I award this my 2nd place vote.

A great many people think they are thinking when they are really rearranging their prejudices.

Thanks Rich .

You can continue from your latest level by selecting continue on the title screen - it automatically saves your progress in case of any mishaps (something my main tester insisted upon ).

You have to complete it and listen to the awesome bonus tune .

Here's the rules as I remember them.

The orbs are released from taps and can be either yellow, green, red, or blue. Sometimes an unstable orb will appear which will absorb the colour of any orb that it touches, these give extra points and can be usefull when struggling to complete a spinner.

Each level has spinners connected via paths and bridges, the orbs will travel freely until the either fall down a hole or get stuck in a spinner. Spinners are the round things with slots for the orbs to sit in. Every spinner starts off armed, the aim is to disarm every spinner using the orbs of an appropriate colour. When the spinner has white lights emitting from each slot, you can place and group of 4 same coloured orbs to disarm the spinner. Often you'll need to group the orbs in the right colour for each slot before the spinner will disarm. Orbs are destroyed when a spinner is disarmed but also when the spinner has already been dealt with, this enables you to gain extra points as well as keep the board clean. Extra bonus points are awarded for nice tidy boards when completing a level.

You can rotate the spinners by right clicking the centre and release a trapped orb by left clicking on it.

Orderlights are shaped like traffic lights and behave in much the same way. You have to destroy 4 orbs of the indicated colour to disarm the light, there's 3 colours in the orderlight that have to be disarmed in order of top to bottom. The orderlights are evil, don't waste orbs when you have to worry about the orderlights because you can't complete a level with an active orderlight.

Along with spinners, sometimes you'll find pipes, straight and bendy that you can also rotate to direct the orbs. You can't rotate a pipe when there's an orb inside, timing is important so learn how fast the pipes and spinners can turn.

That's as much control as you have over proceedings, right click to rotate a spinner or pipe, left click to dislodge and orb from a spinner. Simple as quantum physics.

Some levels have time limits, but seeing as how your hardly in control of time, it's not exactly a digital clock; guage your time on the hourglass and hope that those last grains of sand are putting up a fight. Taps can only stand so many orbs rolling around, so if the board gets too busy they can't release their orb and can get overloaded. When the taps start rattling and sputing orb puss, you should certainly get some orbs into spinners before it's too late. Running out of time or getting overloaded will result in the loss of a life token. An extra life is awarded for every 3000 points.

The board is also populated with traps and devices that will affect the orbs:

Sprayers.
These are like little jars of paint, upside down on a little stand - They will spray any orbs that pass under them whatever colour they are. Sprayers are your friend.

Blockers.
Blockers are annoying barriers that will only let the orbs pass if they are going in the right direction, or if they match the blockers colour spot. Orbs that don't pass muster will be sent back.

Holes.
Orbs will simply fall down these, which is nice - only if you were'nt relying on that colour .

Game progress is automatically saved, just select Continue to keep going from your latest level. There's 25 levels in all.

I won't mention my high score, but the highest score from Babs is 55634, which took about 4 hours - Babs is hardcore!.

Ahh, it does let you specify the screen depth, but I think it starts out as 32-bit, I'll look into uploading a 16-bit version.

Hmmm ... very attractive looking game, but what the hell are you supposed to do?

No amount of mouse clicking or key pressing seemed to change anything and without any instructions all I could do was watch some coloured balls move around the screen.

The original archive wasn't 17MB. I had to repack it because when I use RAR files noobs winge, so repacking made it larger than it was - so that's my fault most likely.

Van - See Scragles comments about not knowing what to do? Those help screens should be shown up front mate!

Scragle - It's a bloody cool game if you give it some time. Basically you need to fill the spinners with the same colour balls (click a spinner to rotate it, click a ball thats inside a spinner to eject it). Sometimes there are traffic lights on the level, in which case you need to fill a spinner with those coloured balls. The glowing white spinners are the ones that need filling to complete the level.

Gack.. I can see why people find it confusing if they play it without reading this first

Just tried it again ... Image does not exist it line 3940! I got that error message before the game began. Odd because It didn't happen the first time I tried it.

So I ran it again and this time it ran fine ... very odd. However, I still don't know what to do! Rich says click the spinners to rotate them. I assume the spinners are the thing with four holes for balls to fit in but clicking on them does nothing. There is a highlight that appears beneath the cursor but the spinners remain static.

Are you clicking the middle of them? That is the part to click - if you click a ball when it gets into a spinner slot, it ejects it, so if there is no ball at all, nothing would happen.

If you ARE clicking the middle and still nothing is happening I'd call the Bug Police (and yes, the spinners are the round things with 4 holes, not the taps). Zoom in a bit (cursor keys) to see more clearly btw.

RIGHT clicking works

Left click to remove a ball!

It does seem like a lot of fun but it takes time to play it just to figure out what to do.

Just got an image does not exist error again. I ALT+Tabbed out of the game to write this message and when I ALT+Tabbed back I got the error message. I believe that it what I did when I got the error message last time.

Is there a way to control what colour orb a tap will produce?

I was on the castle level where you have to complete yellow/blue/yellow but I ran out of time having only been given 2 yellow orbs out of the 8 I would have needed.

Thats real good VAN.

Nearly gave up on level 2 though - couldn't understand why all 4 spinners disabled but level still wouldn't complete. Just about to press escape when I spotted the traffic lights and realised what I had to do. Then during the loading screen for level 3 the hint screen explained about the lights!
After I sussed how it worked I loved it - best entry I played so far (only played 4 entries up to yet though )
Had a peek in the level folder - 25 levels, lots of work gone in to this.

Very, very good....
...apart from the bitmap font looks very retro but actual game itself is modern 3D - they don't go together good IMHO.

I did 'try' to make the help screens more accesible, well when it waits for you to to click the mouse before starting the level - the help screens are supposed to change, so you can sit and read the instructions before playing. That stopped working for some reason and I forgot to fix it .

I'll leave it a few days then fix any bugs that crop up and upload a revised version.

Keep playing it though, once you know how everything works it becomes much easier - things like saving up oddly coloured balls in disarmed spinners for later, or quickly swapping orbs between neighboring spinners; there's lots of little tricks you can use to manage the orbs. As for orderlights, well if your stuck on the last bulb, all the new orbs coming from the tap will be a convenient colour, the trick is to get rid of the other bulbs quickly enough.

Now get it loaded back up soldier, there's 25 irritating levels to complete.

Just played it. Had to go into the screens folder to figure out how to play it but after that it made perfect sense. I got passed 2 levels but there was this massive one. 16 spiner things on it and I couldn`t complete it before the taps overloaded. Nice to see it saves my position so I can come back to it when my head stops hurting.

Nice Game, very playable.

Pros
Nice soundtrack, suits the game.
The different coloured balls are obvious, you often struggle to differentiate between different pieces in games like this
There is a decent amount of "How do I solve this?" factor from the very begining.

Cons
Couldn't play it without the instructions on the forum, not enough detail in the help provided
Crashed on level 4, had to 3 finger shuffle (Ctrl-Alt-Delete.)

Not bad at all, my head hurts!

This is one of the few games I was unable to play because the screen resolution was set too high. I would recommend you use an .ini file so that users can select which resolution they are capable of.

You can set the resolution and screen depth through the options screen . Once you've changed it you'd have to quit and reload.

This is my second place vote

Its a great well-made game, and is fantastically presented.

Only small downsides were of course;

->> The (steep-ish) learning curve (but once I got playing it was easier)

->>Although very puzzling, it was not exactly what I would find fun playing for hours-on-end, but it was good while it lasted.

Nice game.

This one certainly looks like there's more work gone into it than all the others.

It looks fantastic (well apart from that "demo" style font on that highscore table background...painful) and the sound and music is pretty good too.

The help screens were good and I picked up the gameplay straight away which is fairly original but TBH didn't really grab me. Simply clicking on balls to eject them from the spinners until the right colour falls in is enough to solve a lot of the levels. I also wished there was a way to force extra balls to be dropped as I was often left waiting with nothing to do.

I stuck with it to level 7 so it obviously has something going for it but I found it more clever than truly fun.

Some great media and a superb piece of coding none the less.

I rated this 5th - just one position out of voting range.

Must agree it looks absolutely georgous and brings back memories of original version.

Have to agree with fog about that high score font - just horrid and looks like a dated Amiga demo.

I will certainly be playing this again.

This game give me a dejavu. I thinking about the amiga. This game i played very frequently on the Amiga. The rules are exacly the same. Zo it was easy for me to understand the rules. The only thing that was wrong was the sound. Not that it is bad. But some sounds are not the same as i was used to hear from the Amiga game. BTW there the game was called LOGICAL.
But programming and graphics are great. Sound Alse good. But sorry no vote from me. Because i got the fealing you just have copied the game and alterd it for PC use.
Maybe this was not you attention. and you efford was realy true.

Pah, I can't believe your all dissing my font!

Thanks guys.

Firewood,
Erm, I'm not sure that there is a 100% original game in this compo, all the good puzzle ideas are done, I just though Logical could do with a little remake (although Illogic is only inspired by Logical). Put this way, if I was going for a remake, then I went right round the houses doing it . I loved Logical, but really I wanted to make something like that which is real simple to play, and feels mechanical, there's something satisfying about dealing with all those clicking orbs, no?. I was more interested in making something smooth and trying some ideas than trying to remake Logical.
Anyhoo, be sure to complete Illogic and listen to the bonus tune .

Hi Van,

I've played most of the games now, just got to your one.

Whilst I found it extremely complicated at first, I gave it time and read through the screens like others suggested and really got into it! All of the sound and models were good, and the gameplay was pretty fun too; I wasn't too good at first but I got better... puzzle games aren't my specialty but this one was kind of theraputic and watching the orbs and spinners etc... was kind of fun. I don't know if that made senese, but hey.

It was all slick apart from the Amiga score screen and also(importantly) visually consistant - which is something alot of the entries aren't.

Good fun, but like a Radiohead album - you need to give it a few tries until you get it I hope other people give it a chance long enough to get into it.

You get a good vote from me...
Enjoy your 3 points!

Cheers Drew, another one dissing my lovely font - TBH it was gonna be more fitting but I could'nt get anything done that I was happy with so opted for something easier to draw . I was expecting people to find the music annoying more than anything (note that you can pause with the 'P' key and disable the music!).

This game is very well done and polished to the core. It looks like the levels were being compiled on the fly (put together with separate objects) and loading took a while. Maybe have precompiled levels in the future? And a distributing a level editor might be fun. midi song was great, didn't beat the game to hear it though.

I never played the original on Amiga so this was all new to me. The game seemed to have a "blurred" look about it, I have a feeling those 3D models are actually detailed and textured well but tough to see in the game. The sound effects were really good.

Sometimes it was hard to tell which "avenue" an orb would take when it came to a split. I don't know if there's a rule for it or it just picks one randomly. A little frustrating at times when those darn things didn't go where I thought they should!

Putting this in the voting pile for sure.

Thanks guys.

To tell the truth I did'nt expect a lot of people here to get into Illogic; because it's a womans game! (insert gasp here ) - trully it's so much easier for women to play for some reason, maybe because women can multi-task.

The test is simply to ask any nearby female to try it, once they get the hang of it they're often hooked . Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying women somehow like my game for deliberate reason I've designed for - they just hate being beaten by a random element I think.

Sorry Van B i did not coverd all the parts of your game. And your right most of the games are clones. Therefor is your game the best. Smooth graphics. And the sounds the same annoying as the real game. Thats make that you wants to go faster than the balls are running.

For me the gameplay was very easy to understand. And its make the game beautefuly to play.

Thats why i change my point of view and vote for you a first place.

This game didn't really do anything for me, it felt like a slow paced arcade game rather then a puzzle game. On the plus since the graphics were good and it played smoothly, if a little weird, even though it's quite slow I found myself struggling to keep track of what was going on, bit of sensory overload there. Nice game VanB, but not the kind of game I could vote for, sorry.

This game is quality, after taking a while to get to grips with it, it kept me hooked for hours I haven't actually managed to fail a stage yet, but trying to get all the balls moving around in the right place while the taps threaten to explode is pretty tense. There's some good level design and some bad level design, some of the levels seem a little slow. Music isn't the best I've heard, but the graphics are good, everything's nice and shiny and detailed, while the background effects work well. The only things I can complain about are the way the ball randomly chooses a path at a crossroads, and your choice of font . Other than that it's a brilliant game, and one I'd invest a lot of time in if there were any more levels available to download 1st place!

Surely one of the more unique games entered! Graphically, it was impressive, and the game as a whole is well designed. Unfortunately, it was just a little too slow for my tastes. Also, the randomness of the balls at intersections drove me crazy.

Still, very nice game.

Pro's:
Very nice graphics ingame.
Sound effects are fitting, and are non-intrusive which is excellent.
Puzzles are sufficiently hard.
Replayability is there! ( I stuck with it till level 10, and will have another go soon! )

Con's:
A Bug prevented the music from playing unless I went Options first, then Play game, which meant I didn't hear it for the majority of the time!
Some things need a little more explaining to start with, as I was slightly confused until I won the level, and the next screen told me why.

Comments:
A very, very nice game all-round! I will have to give this one a vote
Great job.

Fourth Place!

Cheers Jess,

I would have replied earlier but bumping tactics could play a big part in the battle of the puzzle-competing mods .

Bouncy has drawn first blood with his off-topic plea, so I'll parry by bumping whenever his game get's above mine .

It's a shame there's no attach button here, I could bump with extra levels each time to make it more forumly acceptable.

Incidently...

The level editor is still active but it's not the easiest or prettiest thing to use, don't know that I want to tell how until I tidy it up for v2 and make a tutorial. There is a hidden message in the exe though if anyone feels leet.
