I know why models animated in Charactershop can't be played correctly in DBC. They are animated using bones, a format that DBC doesn't support. Is there a way to reformat the models to be used in DBC and still retain the animations? Please don't say "just buy DBP" because I already know that but I currently don't have enough money for DBP. What is the cheapest way to make the models work without DBP?

Thanks

is there a program or something that can fix the animated models for me?
or is there some way to remove the bones and preserve the animation?

if it is boned.. .. im sure that if you load it in, it wont even load the animations. Play around a little. And i heard of a program called JTedit. its out of date but it has frame by frame animation, will take some work but you can animate that way. and its free. look in the stickies in the newcomers section for the link.

Frozen Flame,

Are you saying Dark Basic wont play an animation with bones in it? Ive been having real problems trying to get my animations to work. They work fine everywhere else but not in Dark Basic, there .3ds and .x animations. I would like to hear more about what you know about this problem.

yeah I've heard it before. DBC doesn't support boned animations, only DBP.

The Newbie is right, and sometimes not even too well, but anyways it does its good job . With DBC your alternative is animating the model's limbs (not using bones).

yes, you need to import to a real modelling program, cut all the limbs up, and stick it back together in a hierarchy.

basically, DBC supports models that are comprised of seperate objects, linked together. its a very basic version of the .x file format.

your only possible option to use character shop's models (i presume it creates boned meshes) is to export every single frame, and then to play each model in order in DBC, showing and hiding the model's frames in order.

but i wouldn't do that.

newbie: dunno, i guess you'd just have to export every frame as a static mesh, but i don't know of anything that supports export like that.

does anyone know of a program that would let me format a .x into .md2? I have a program that will export every frame of an animation as long as it is an .md2 model
