I have been looking for a really good program that can help me put together games. I know DarkBASIC is one and there is also BlitzBASIC. I really wanted to know if these were high-end products. I am trying to create games with graphics as good as Half-Life 2 or Doom 3. I don't know if these programs are good or if there is a better program. Can somone please help me with this?

Umm your shooting a little high on graphics dont you think. Doom was made in OpenGL for C++ as far as I know and Half Life im not sure. but if your just starting on games you should aim a little lower try pong or something.

So you think I should start out with a low program and work my way up? Can you maybe give me some good programs to use besides DarkBASIC?

Ya exactly start low then work your way up. The people at ID software didnt start making games like that. You could try alot of basic languages. Qbasics,BlitzBasic,PlayBasic,Im sure there free VB somewhere , Pascal looks pretty good to start alittle in I think. But this is a 3d forum for modelers you should try the Newcomers corner or something.

OK thanks for your help. I think I will go with Blitz 3D. I have used the software briefly and I think it is what I am looking for.

I think ur best bet is dark basic, but I'll add one more to your list
Jamagic, I think Dark Basic is better, but.......Kangaroo is releasing a 3D gamemaker this week, check out the work in progress section, thats where you could start, then go DB, then well if you wanna move on from there its your choice

C++ all the way for good looking games lol. Anyway, you probably could achieve something close in Dark basic pro.

This post is in the wrong board.

Next time, post in General Talk.

Also, you are aiming way too high. Unless you have years, and years of programming experience under your belt, you aren't going to make a game like Doom3, or HL2... Not even close to it.

Start with BASIC ( choose the one that you like, then stick with it ), then in a few years, move to C++, then wait another 15 years, and you can finally start making games like Doom3

Locked.
