I can get Maya 6.0 Unlimited for $50.00 or I can get 3D Studio MAX 6.0 with Character Studio 4.2 for $129.95. Which is a better deal?

No I bet this is from a site similar to that I pointed out to Adobe, Alias and Discreet, quite simply they sell backup versions of the software on blank CD-R's without boxes or manuals and they put a disclaimer at top that says these are only meant to restore already purchased software so they can't be sued

Finn Man if this is the case, do not buy the software if you do not already own a copy previously purchased from the original vendor these guys are just scamming you

Maya 6 Unlimited is a really cool powerful application, only problem when it comes to Dark Basic (Pro or Classic) the X models you can export with the DirectX Exporter plugin is that they don't load into our games.

If anyone reads this and actually got the exports to work out of maya let me know how you did it.

use deep exploration to convert maya to .x

I highly doubt people here legally have unlimited versions at $7000 a pop you would be using them for more than bedroom coding

Finn Man only registered Maya and Autodesk resellers are allowed to legally sell there products and if there download only then they are not legal

Torrey I can explain how, there's only a minor issue with texturing; something you have to manually replace. Don't worry TGC know about the problem and should be fixed for Update 6.0

I never paid that much. £950 for the update license from 4.5, which in turn was updated from 4.0. That unfortunately was a full license.
Still I don't think the price is the main issue, I still don't believe most people are going to spend £200-300 on a program for thier hobby.

Personally I'm past caring that people are ripping everyone off; but if they ever want any help with thier pirated software they can go get rear ended by a wolly mammoth that has a cactus glued to the end of it's member with rabbid hamsters tied to it and coated in vinegar.
I do think we should petition that to be the punishment for piracy, no one cares about loosing £1,000; but I think many people might have a problem with being abused in such a way :p

Raven,

Do tell! Although I don't think it'll be that simple. From what I see inside the X file generated it looks to be a newer version for the X file format compared to the one DarkBASIC supports.

It's nothing special really, I've exported models directly from Maya right into Dark Basic Professional. As I said the only problems I've come across so-far have been the texture issues which you have to hard code.

DBP doesn't yet have support for Shader Materials, which is a shame.
If the mesh itself is crashing the program, then i'd suggest forwarding it all to Mike.

DirectX9.0 Object Format allows you to use Shaders as the Materials rather than just simple Images, and/or material settings like diffuse/specular/etc.

So rather than loading a Shader per model, or for a whole scene of models, the Shader is loaded along with the model and set-up internally. Allows you to do things truely plug-n-play development-wise.

As I said Dark Basic Professional currently doesn't support this, and DirectX Exporter for Maya doesn't export Image-Based materials only. So you've got to edit up else DBP can't use any images on the mesh itself. It's down to how D3DXMesh has been implimented in DBP.
