If they are basic levels, you could use Deled Lite...

I am using 3D Studio Max 7, actually modeling the level is not a problem, its how to make it. I want the jet fighter to be on the bottom of the screen in 3rd person view, or 1st person view, but How do i go abouts making the level? The map would have to be very large to fly in, and im not sure what to do.

A matrix would probably be better for what you are wanting to do or a large terrain and advanced terrain plugin if using dbp...
Look into some of the terrain threads on the forum and you might find what you are looking for...

in short, a plugin is a program that is written to work in conjunction with an existing program; whereas the advance terrain plugin was written to assist DBP programmers create terrain without the hassle of coding every minute detail....

I believe you can find it in one of the newsletters If not posted somewhere here on the boards...

well theres 2 ways, either select your objects then group/group, or to merge them into one object make sure your objects are in editable mesh then select an object click and attach then click all the objects you wish to be attached to it or click on attach list if you have alot.

you could also weld vertexes together but if your making a plane its best to try and make it fromone peice maybe starting from a cylinder since there round.

thats quite a good model u got going on there. a few tweeks here and there and i think it will be really impressive. would love to see it textured.

how many pollys does it have? i'd like to see the wire frame for it so we can advise u where u could take some pollys out and not loose any of the shape.

i've added a render of an aircraft i been working on. not done anything to it for a while now to it but it might give u some idea i hope.

its not a harrier its a BF109 but as i said its might give u some insite

p.s. its only got 87 pollys if i remeber right

now running on a laptop amd64 3000+, 512ram, nVidia fx go5700, 40Gb HDD

Can someone help me make a level, I know its asking a bit much but all I need is the basics so that i can muck around with it to get what i need. I Need to create a Matrix so that it never ends. Or is it possible to make a 3D map in 3ds max and then just loop it so it looks like there is a long terrain? That would be much easier if that could be done.

yeah, select the vertexs and delete them... within the right mouse buttom menu is the option to REMOVE.
Doubt you can make an endless terrain in 3dsmax, but there is an example of how to do so in DbPro examples.

Leave out small details, for example the little inlets on the side of the intake, leave that up to the texturing, don't model them.

For games you will need to probably make your model a bit more angular, I know it looks nice when rendered with smooth edges, but for games, you can get away with a lot less. After all, it will be moving in a game and you'll most only view it from a particular angle.

Just some thoughts

well in games you need to measure in tri`s so its possible your model is 480polygons but not tri`s

and the model is a major improvement from the previous atempt

So I shouldnt use any smoothing on it, I was trying to find a way to mesh smooth it but it was screwing up, it went to thin. so do you think i should leave out the guns and missiles?

well it goes thinner if you meshsmooth using nurms, try classic output that maybe more usefull, but dont meshsmooth it for an ingame mesh! the polycount will simply go too high.

Yeh i noticed, it jumps to about 4000, but I think it looks better with out the mesh smooth, i might just smooth the turbines a bit and thats it. Next step is to make a Matrix, I have no idea how to make one! lol
