Hello everybody,

Iv hit a big problem, i can design maps and play them in test mode but when i won't to build them to show other people it just hangs when i click on the build button.

i installed v1 over ea to start with but iv also now uninstalled both and installed v1 on it own and the problem is still there.

This hangs in both modes single and multi.

I have the full version and my system is able to run with no probs.

Can anyone help me on this or am i missing some realy simple.

Thanks to all that help

If you get no error message it may be that FPS Creator hasn't hung but is taking a long time to set things up as a result of the preferences, check your preferences / build game settings and make sure light mapping is set to none or quick for testing.

Can you check the task manager when running the build button, can you see fpsc-mapeditor.exe or fpscgame.exe running? if one of those is running something is still going on and the level may be being built but simply taking a long time to build which can happen with very large maps.

Check the FPS Creator directory when attempting to build. Do you see any crash_on.txt files in there created at the time of you attempting to build a map?

Are these maps from the EA version or are you creating completely new maps?

Thanks 4 the reply guys.

The part it hung on is when i finnished putting in the settings and clicked on the build button.

now this is going to sound wierd but iv got it going by changing the texture size from 128x128 to 256x256 didnt think it mattered as it was selected by default, most of the settings r left at default.

i havnt tryed a single player game yet just the multi player one.

as i said wierd.

thanks again mates for the quick responce.

other than this little hiccup, this program realy is the bomb, well done to all of you at Game Creators..

ok, i figured out what the problem was, when you goto build your game exe, don't build it in the default. "FPSCreator\My Games" build it somewhere else, where you would remember where you built it. thats what i did. dont save the exe file in the default location

I have this problem too. no crash files. i have FPSC-MapEditor.exe in task manager using 76,292KB memory. No cpu usage even when I up it to High. everything is set full blown, shaders and stuff. now when I do a test build from the editor it goes through no problem.\

It is not but a 2 room single story level with red lights. everything is enclosed with no leaks

yep tried ESC, cancel, ALT F4, and the X in corner.

I noticed when I build test level FPSC-Game.exe runs at 99% cpu
but when i goto build a exe out of it the cpu usage of FPSC-MapEditor.exe is at 0%

Look at my post entitled "Now I'm Getting Perturbed . . ." I outlined what I had to do to actually get this program working right.

Mike

P.S. It's a doozie of a list that took me three hours to finally complete!!!

By the way, I took your advice and made sure to build my game somplace else. I created a new folder on my 'J' drive called "j:\game proj" and build games in there. It worked great, so as well as erradicating all possible neutrons and electrons (and maybe even photons) of the ea version, then re-installing a fresh copy on my 'j' drive, as well as doing all of the above got my fps creator version to run fine!

Thanks everyone.

Let me ask you, have you tried to make a small tiny 4x4 room with a player start and a light - that's it. Now do a preview. If it works, then try to build that to a game - make a folder on your hard drive totally different from where fps creator is installed.

Also, save the room 1st and call it something like testroom. Then, in the build menu, make sure you choose the testroom.fpe (or whatever the extention is). Make sure your lightmapping is set to medium softshadows and 256x256 textures.

Now build that game. If you do not see text replies almost immediately (within 15 seconds) in the data box above the build button then something is truly messed up!

If it worked to completion, then fps creator goes back to the ediutor screen. Close fps creator and go to where you built your game and run it. You should get the default menu with sound and then play your one room masterpiece.

Let us know if the test build works or not.

If it didn't, you will have to do all the wonderful things I did to make fps creator work 100%. This includes going to regedit (START --> RUN --> regedit) abd deleting ALL instances of fps creator files and data!!!
