Either late this week or next week, the Digitiser computer pages (375 onwards) on C4 teletext, will apparently be reviewing FPSC...

Teletext...I think I know that word, was it from the Roman era, or perhaps the Vikings?

Ah yes, a 1980's phenomena, where text screens, sometimes as large as 80 characters wide by 32 characters high, were transmitted to televisual devices. An interactive revolution, one could press a "Reveal" key to toggle the screen between 2 states, thus "revealing" extra information, such as answers to questions.

Do people still use Teletext? Personally I use the alternative, T'internet.

Who knows, someone may sarcastically ridicule the internet one day

It's so handy, yet I never use it.

For example, press text then 100+ the channel number and you have a guide right away. It's handy for watching TV when you have no digi-box or sky, or newspaper, internet or TV guide.

Eskimo's love teletext.

Game Central is cool, I always read it if I can get reception on Analogue TV, unfortunately Digital Teletext is slow and rubbish.

The reviews on Game Central are very trust worthy and the news is always up to date. Unfortunately its predecessor 'Digitiser' was even better but they got fired for being too 'alternative' with their humor

Digitiser was very poor - dont really trust the current lot either. The letters page is good though. Haven't seen any reviews yet...

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=60830&b=21&p=0

Its up today, and I posted a transcript of the review

Not sure why you'd think Digitiser was poor, it was written by staff who have since gotten jobs at Edge and Gamestm, and has had very positive press in the slew of recent retro magazines hitting smith's shelves, I saw one magainze dedicate 8 pages to how great and influencial it was over the years and saying how sorely missed it was...

Mind you each to their own, the humor certainly wasn't to everybody's taste, although I found it amusing, and their reviews weren't always popular, sometimes everybody except htem would say a very hyped game was great, they would disagree and it'd becme a slagging match - they, and the new GC team have a reputation as being very harsh. But their recommendations are usually spot on

I agree the letters page is the best part, its kinda like a forum but where the rubbish is editted out and only the best / most amusing / interesting bits are allowed in. Much better than the BBCs version which is only updated once a week...

Ah - you got there before me.

The main problem with the reviews is that its all very condensed, and they dont really detail any bugs and whatnot. Mind you, its worse on the BBC version of it.

yes I agree they can't be very detailed in their reviews. Its difficult in such a restricted space. However they usually do a pretty good job considering the restrictions, and at least have a knowledge of most older games on all systems some can accurately compare. For example the recent Astro boy game on GBA was ignored by everyone, as the GBA is close to dead and its a 2d platformer based on a jap liscence nobody cares about, so you could easily have ignored it. But they noticed it was by Treasure, remembered teir previous classic games on the 16bit platforms and thought they'd try it out. Surprisingly its one of the best games of the year, and sadly one that most magazines didn't even bother reviewing, as they didn't notice and took the latest Fifa as something to look at instead

Yes, they certainly know their old games...

Have you sent a rebuttal of the review ? I was thinking of mentioning the points that you made (if you haven't already done so).

I was thinking of it, but worried that posting the review here may already send a few fanboys crazy and send a sludge of negative emails to them!

You're very welcome to do so, I don't have the time tonight, if not then I will tomorrow during the day Unfortunately for teletext,I'm not good at writing things concisely, as I am sure you will have noticed over the years

I thought America & Japan & all NTSCservices couldn't get it. And the review was only on C4 Teletext for one day... any country other than Britain probably wouldn't have been able to recieve it...
