Pixar has just made a new renderer, and it bloody fast, dunno if they'll get money out of it, or be greedy and keep it to their movies, here is a link to compare the speed between Renderman (a 3DS max/Maya renderer) and the Pixar the renderer, its good mind you new gen graphics look like rendering quality, so I guess took advantage of the technology into their renderer

Pretty expensive, but I don't know what it can work with, but I'm under the impression its a stand alone renderer which might run under certain file formats, haven't a clue what, doesn't provide wanted info

as for the new renderer, well we'll have to wait for the release for a price range and spec

I think it uses a similar technique to how the new gen games are, as they got HDRI and Caustics are real time, as well as almost render quality graphics, someone said they could swear they saw radiosity in one of the screens they saw, but they could be mistaken, so well, if new gen games can do that, then a new gen of rendering should take place

Well, the renderer is made to be used for previewing animation which surely give them a great perpective on things. The final render still uses the RenderMan technology as far as I know.

figures, as renderman is higher quality, until they can get it to that quality, it would only make sense to only use that as render tests, meaning more preciseness for the final render
