Hi,

Im really new to modelling - i made this very simple bulldozer style vehicle in Cinema 4D, but cannnot figure out how to make a texure image for it to load in DarkBasic (classic) so i can texture it in my game.

The model looks like this:

But whenever i put it in lithunwrap or bodypaint i get a texture map like this:

I have no idea how to texture this model so I can make it look good in the game. If I texture it inside Cinema 4D and export as .x, it loses that data; So i thought making a .bmp image and texturing it at run time is how to do it. Can someone therefore tell me how to make a texture for it or at least, how to generate a texture template for this model.

Thanks for your help in advance guys!

Dave

Try a Box unwrap, then work on the 6 faces. Believe me it's easiest to do that in nearly every UVW Editor.

You select a bunch of faces that go together so to speak and then map them to a generic primative type; then tweak.

Ah.. thanks. Setting UV unwrap to box really did the job!

Cheers Raven.

Ok - the texture map works fine when I preview it in Lith Unwrap.

I saved the bmp and drew my texture on - it looks great in Lith unwrap, but in DB Classic it seems to mess up the texture and just puts it all over.

Whats the best way to texture the object in DB once i have the texture saved as a .bmp? Use a program? OR is there a certain command? Baring in mind, Im using box UV texture mode.. does that make a difference?

Thanks again!

don't know if this is any help but after I texture something in a 3rd party program like lith I have to re save or export the model back to the modeling software with the new uv cords before I export to a DB format (.x)

maybe your exported file still contains the old uv cords but draws from the new .bmp

also jpg or one of the other smaller formats will help to reduce file size on larger projects...

dude nice choice in Apps, look for Bodypaint tutorials, but I think the man to help you is BigAdd as he has Bodypain, or I find the best idea is to email Maxon customer services, they are great, if you are in the UK, you will get a reply from Perry Stacy, a top bloke in customer services
