A very good place to start is http://www.matedit.com - even if I do say so myself!

There are some tutorials that start off by assuming that you know absolutely nothing about programming.

why do they say Aliens are gonna be friendly?, surely the agressive ones wipe out the peaceloving ones, so all you have left out there are crazed flesh eating interstellar monsters.
