Hi guys, from the title of this post you will probably guess whats going on. I have just aquired DB Pro (I am not a complete 'noob', so don't worry about that), however I have not had a lot of experience using 3d modeling programs.

I had heard that blender was good and was using that to make a small level type thing for my game, then I realise that I can't get it into DB Pro. I tired using the exporter to export a .x file and when I load it into DB Pro and run the program in debug mode it gives me error: 7018: Could not load model. Or something like that.

I downloaded a script as listed on the blender website to do .3ds files but that just crashes the debugger. In the past I have used anim8or to produce models but I would much prefer it if I could texture the models in the modeller and load them straight into my DarkBASIC program.

Basically, can anyone recommend a way to get textured models from Blender into DB Pro? And if not can anyone recommend any (preferably) free modellers which can?

Thanks in Advance
Ashley

P.S. I am going to check the list of modellers on the forum as well, but some personal recomendations can never be a bad thing.

Hi lord Raoul...

well X exporter in blender it's for the moment no valuable for dbpro I think ..only simple geometry work ...

So I recommend try using another way for export ..depends if you have static or animate model...

me I mostly using the .Obj exporter to get model from blender into another soft ...try Wings I think the X format should be work..or gamespace light if your model as few poly...

Btw don't try to get everything from one soft ..everytime you will miss something...use different for the purpose you need..

good luck..

I use this plugin to export static models to FPSC.

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/glabro1/python.html

It works fine. I assume it will work in DBP as well.

Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with animated models.

I think it's because you can't export "binary compressed" directx files.

I'm buying fragmotion because apparently it can.

Pretty much what daghen said. Just thought I'd elaborate.

Lord Raoul,

I do not have DBPro, so I have not experimented with this. However, check the material names for each object in your model scene you are exporting, that it does not have a "." period in it. Try exporting a model to .x with a material name that includes a period within it. Then, read the last few lines of Blender's open console window. It will state that for the reason of the period, some viewers may have a problem loading the model(not a direct quote).

Good luck.

It's the same for bones. Blender puts a "." in them by default.

Annoying.

Thanks for the advice so far, I haven't tried to export into another program yet. However when I change the material names to not have .'s in I can load them into DBPro, however Blender does not seem to be saving the textures. I will keep trying.
