For the first time I started to mess around with shaders last night and found that with shaders selected the game was hovering between 7-10 fps. Looked great but ran like a pile of old poo.

My system specs are: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (2.09Gb), 1 Gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce FX 5200.

The map in question was just a couple of rooms (lab and control room prefabs) seperated by a maintenance passageway to see how the thing would run.

I have downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card and it supports pixel shading. My PC is well within the minimum spec associated with FPSC but whilst it looks great it runs too slowly to even think about playing.

I ran it with just shaders and no light mapping but didn't make any difference.

Any suggestions?

*Keeps fingers crossed nobody says 'Get a new graphics card'*

FX 5200 has a crap fillrate, even the damn GeForce 3 has 3x the fillrate. So it can't do shaders quite a well as... well frankly it's crap at them.

This said the FPSC ones aren't exactly optimised.

I just want to for warn you about ati and fpsc with shaders, some people have been having problems with the shaders others have not.

I have a ATI (Connect3D) Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition 256MB DDR3 pci-e graphics card and v1 shaders do not work at all. I have read some other thread of people using different models of ati cards having the same problems. So what ati card will or will not work with fpsc right now in its current state is really a shot in the dark.

Well that was the ghist, but to be honest. If your just using it for FPSC I wouldn't bother.

The Shader Version over Non-Shader is barely noticeable really.
Hardly worth the high-end card you need to bloody run them at any-rate.

I like the look of the shader one better...but have done another 2 room thingy just to have a look again and it's working fine. I think it was the lab that was messing things up - the thing with all the windows. Not going near that again lol.

Trouble is that the shader thingy is a bit dark. Don't want to add lights as it'll slow down my multiplayer (and am not sure if you can add lights to a mp anyway?)...when I press the '>' key a few times to adjust the gamma it looks a lot better...but is there a way so that the game starts at that gamma setting automatically without users having to press the thing..?

Am assuming it's going to be in the setup.ini somewhere but am not sure what to change!
