Please don't laugh, but I'm having a problem with importing my terrain. First some background. I know little if anything about 3D modeling and related stuff. I followed a tutorial that I found here http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=49738&b=21 which seemed to work okay. I created a terrain in Terragen and exported it as a LWO (LightWave Object) and then imported it into Blender. At this point I exported it as a DirectX .X file (33MB). Following the tutorial above. I placed the .X file and the .TGA and .BMP files into the user folder "Crogram FilesThe Game CreatorsFPS CreatorFilesentitybankuser". I fired up FPSC and found the entity, and placed it at 20,20 (center). It took a while, but finally it was done I looked at it and discovered something was very wrong. Here's a screenshot for your viewing pleasure. I've colored it Red for your enjoyment...

Yes, it's on it's side and been miniaturized. *sigh*

Here's an in editor test game screenshot. This is a differnt mesh and is supposed to have a texture covering it, which it doesn't.

Update: The darn thing's light as a feather too. I can blow it off of the little platform it's on with around four bazooka shots. Also, up close I can see the texture on it, but it's TINY! lol This is almost too funny.

And you don't want it to explode? Turn it to static entity I guess.

Eh?

The whole point was to try and import it as an entity for use as terrain.

Does anyone have information on how to do this?

I think Segment Editor can help you, but I'm not completely sure.

Xilch,

Greetings. Not a tough problem to fix.

Once you have a terrain that you like, export it as an .x, and place it in ...EntityBankfolder of your choice.

You must create (cannibalize) an .fpe file, so that FPSC knows what the heck it is. Place it in with your .x file.

SIZE and ROTATION can be directly altered from within the .fpe file. Be sure to place the terrain just below the working surface of your level. Manipulate the HEIGHT in the .fpe to adjust this.

Play around with entity's properties and you can make the weight too heavy to move, and make it invulnerable. Making it STATIC should work too. Texture must be pointed to in the .fpe file, and must be a single map.

I hope this helps and gets you off to a good start in getting your terrain working.

Thanks,

Seth Black

no need to mess with .fpe files... just do this:

when in the editor mode, select your terrain, and press either the number 1 and it will rotate the object for you.. keep pressing until it fits your need

What I meant was......If you look at the top, it has the Mac top piece....So how did you get FPSC on a Mac?

Maybe a Windows Skin thing. I had a similar one once.

Evil Stick, I use a Mac based skin with Style XP. I can't stand Windows XP's default.

One interesting thing is that the Open Dynamics Engine is available for Linux and Macintosh, so it should be possible to port FPSC. Of course I'm not a professional programmer so I couldn't tell you how hard this would be.

It can't, I can tell you that that, unless a miracle happens and Mac's get DirectX.

True. I think I saw somewhere that some Linux people were working to try and port it to Linux.

How do I keep the player from falling through the terrain? I've got an entity I'm using for terrain (finally), but I keep falling right through it.

Xilch,
Your problem is related with the correct axis alignment of the model. Some modelers have their own set of axes. For some, up-down is Z axis, and for some near-far is the same axis.
You should try to rotate it on the original modeler program and test the results. From there on, use the resulting axis translation for future models.
