I have some old space ship i did for a game i was doing in another language, once i find it, i wouldn't mind you using it. Oh, thing is, it's a pixel like space ship, so if your looking for better graphics, sorry...

Go up, side scrolling, sounds contradictory.

If you get most of the game working, I have some nice graphics you (MIGHT) use. But I (MIGHT) make my own game with them. Depends on how good your Demo is.
