Greetings

I'm looking at the fpi files of the enemy entities. Let's use Aiko (Assault) for the example.

It states there somewhere:

textured = aiko_3_D2.tga

So I assume that if I ask a 3D artist to work on the textures, I have to provide the aiko_3_D2.tga file for him to work. But I can't find it. I can find the aiko_3_D2.dds though.

So, can any one explain me what's going on here and how does the engine take care of these details so I can give the textures to the artist and know what I have to do when I get the new textures back.

Thank you very much in advance.

@ Zero

no the dds is acutally a texture file. u can have your textures in tga or dds so when fps looks for the texture it just looks for the name of the file not the extention then loads it, weird huh? alot of games are the same way

If you dont have what it takes to create "Spend Alot Of Money"

Actually, as far as I can see, FPSC doesn't use the tga at all while running the game.

I've edited the aiko_1_D2.tga.... Opened it as dds, edited it and saved as a tga file, due to having problems with saving dds files. I did run the game, but no texture change at all.

So I decided to rename aiko_1_D2.dds, and leave the aiko_3_D2.tga as is. Guess what my edited aiko_3_D2.tga shows up in the game and in the folder a new aiko_3_D2.dds file is created.

So when editing, either edit the original dds file directly (make sure to back up the original dds, just in case) or save it as a tga file with the same name and remove the original dds file.

Just for fun, the pic attached shows the result of my first editing attempt.

So it neglects the extension of the file... cute... never thought of it.

Thank you very much Hitman and Zero.
