INSTRUCTIONS AT THE 6TH POST OF THE PAGE

This thread is kind of refering to this one :

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=63533&b=24

I think that THIS thread, (NOT the one above) should be a sticky for the numerous reasons :

- So that n00bs can stop asking for one,
- Apart from n00bs, so that other people can stop asking too,
- So that it can come useful in the future for them,

I am hereby, putting the download from the link that leads to that thread above, putting the 'DBConv.exe' as a download,

I hope everyone on these forums find this a help .

Cheers.

Oh! I forgot to put on how to use it!

Right, here is how to use DBConv.exe :

1. Download the DBConv.exe to a route you will remember e.g. 'C:/My Documents/' and create a folder for the program calling it 'DBConv',

2. Copy and paste your .3ds model into the DBConv folder,

3. Run the DBConv.exe,

4. Then finally, Press C - This will then make the program scan for .3ds files in the DBConv folder and convert them into .X files.

5. FINISHED! (<- I hope!)

-----------------------------------------------------

If you have any problems with doing this, please reply back to this thread as soon as possible, but I would think most likely you will get this all right - or at least I hope so!

Tell me what you think of it!

you know, you can get a plug-in for 3dsMax that will do this for you. I am using xskinexp.dle...check out this site
http://www.maxplugins.de/
this way, you don't have to run any conversion, just put the .dle in your plugin folder for max, and then it should load up, and add an option for .x file in the export option under file.
BTW, I use Max vers 4.xx

Isn't it more simple to use a simple and small .exe with the most simple instructions? - YES! But thanks for the advice anyway Visigoth .

Bosco - A sticky thread is kind of like an announcement, which puts the post at the top of the page (or near that depending on how many there actually are).

Hi,

Quote: "WHY CAN'T ALL MODEL TYPES BE COMPATIBLE??!!!??"

Usually licensing rights. It costs money to use certain object types so companies end up creating their own object type, thus flooding the market with endless object types.

Hey guys
I have downloaded the program

In C:\my documents\dbconv

I then copied the 3d max scene file into the same folder

ran the program - it found and named the file and said press c to continue

pressed c and then it said done...

Nothing happened.

There was no new file in the folder and the Max file was still a max file.

What did I do wrong?

Copy the file(s) and paste them in entitys/"Your Folder"/ , Make sure you have the script and everything else, Run FPSC, There you have it .

Ahh! Very nice car park, Rockdrala Well done!

Quote: "One more thing, can i make custom doors and textures in my Auto Desk 3D Studio Maxand use them in FPS Creator as well?"

It depends if they can convert to .3ds and your texture to be converted to .dds or .tga, if they can then yeah ,

Quote: "where can the directory your folder be located?"

It should be located in the FPSC folders 'entitybank/"Your Folder Name" '

Quote: "and where do I add the script at?"

That goes in 'entitybank/"Your Folder Name" ' along with your models and textures .

Hope this has helped! .

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I could really use this. I'm a poor sap who doesn’t feel like making my own models so I try to bring out the best of the default stuff.

Can anyone help me find a .x to .3ds converter? I tried google but I could only find the opposite (.3ds to .x) I want to make cinematic’s using the default models in Lightray3D or Anim8or.

Why isn’t there any .x to .3ds???
