ok, well, im starting a new project (what else is new?). I couldn't do human modelling in milkshape as good as i knew i probably could with another program, so i picked up blender. i love it now, more than 1 1/2 of my siblings put together . anyways heres a shot of some different angles of what i have so far, tell me what you think!

UPDATES
10/31 -added pics
-added concept art at the bottom
-Welded verts on the neck bod and head so everything is one
mesh
11/1 - god only knows what crap i did but i finished today
models around 1800 faces i think, triangles.

Concept art: Im really not much of an artist, but i threw this together last weekend when i was trying to filter ideas through my mind to sort the good from the bad and or the ones that didnt go together.

YES! another convert! *waves a little flag
Anyway, it looks really good, the hands could use some work tho. The hands in general seem a little big.

Im sick of Master Chief soo...ooga booga!!
Explain to me why some people pay money for 3d software? Its not 3d till its been blended. wwww.blender3d.org

aha, i can explain now...

the hands probably look wierd, 1 because i mean for them to be a little bigger than normal, and two... well im a low poly modeller by trade and ive never really gotten a chance to model fingers, but with blender its all peachy, it will come in due time.

whats a convert? *waves little questionmark flag"
(EDIT: oh you mean i converted to blender? hell yea bro blender is the shiot!)

thanks for the good feedback, err what part of the geometry is screwy sep?

anyways thanks both of you for the feedback, this model is going to somewhat resemble the styles of kingdom hearts and star ocean : till the end of time.

His head is a bit weird (in the model of course, great concept ), and his neck is to big, just as his back (unless he is using a backpack, or something.... ) else it's quite good. Don't worry about the hands too much as once its properly textured, they look fine, thought i'd work a bit more on that thumb...

haha thanks, ahh yes i forgot to mention his neck is bent down a bit, as well as his head but not as much as it needs to be. this does cause a kind of hunch back looking thing.
as for the hands, ill be working on them

psst. it's not the program it's the user.....

arms too short
legs too long
missing pelvis/ass like posted above
shoulders missing

this model will need a bit of rework to have decent animations

but your progress looks better and better so by now you probably have figured all this out and corrected it....

keep it up...we need more organic modelers around these parts...

Good job! i think it looks great for a anime model.. (btw guys, just incase you didn't know, anime models don't reproduce or excrete wastes... )

I don't think it needs to be changed at all... except for any problems you have with animating (as posted above)

Quote: "psst. it's not the program it's the user....."

what kind of doggerel is that?

with modeling apps sometimes it is the program. for example, some people can create awesome models in Wings3D but on the other hand they can't create a pile of poop in Blender...

now when it comes to programming it's all the user/developer's fault...

no really true peter. the reason they cant make poo with blender is because they havent become used to or learned how to use blender. I say its about a 90 user - 10 app relationship.

@ K razy jimmy: btw what did you draw on for your concept drawing that you got there cause it looks like a drawing on canvas paper lol.

It's called the truth...

lol, I have no problems with the model, pretty good actually, animations will suffer because of the items I pointed out, but I draw the line when somebody who doesn't understand how to use a program properly starts their post by flaming it...

If Krazy doesn't like Milkshape that is his/her right but don't discourage others by posting infantile rants like

psionic is an exception .

and heckno im glad you feel that this model needs that much rework but as i said before, hes not supposed to be anatomically correct, and his arms and legs are just as long as i would like them to be. they are in fact the right proportions but you wouldnt know that due to the orthographic view point. i appreciate comments but dont act like my model sucks if you cant prove that the arms arent the right proportions, because they fall directly on the top of the knees from a standing position. and that comment about it being "the user" was very irrelevant and unneccissary.

anyways, ill fix the pelvis thing, but other than that im pretty much through with this model.

K razyJimmy:
I Belive perhaps you took Heckno a bit too badly, I do agree with you on one point however, software does matter to some degree.. when saying so I'm thinking about the workflow and features that are made to increase the ease of modling. I use XSI myself because I find it a lot faster to work with, and there is a reason why those programs sell, not just the power of its rendered. Ofcourse, an artist will probably not create anything better than what he is currenly capable of, just faster and with less frustration. As for the model, Heckno said he liked the model overall, but even is something is not suppose to be anatomically correct, you still need to play within some rules for the design to actually work. You've agreed to do something about the pelvis, which is good.. fixing that will not be a problem as its mainly just to pull the lower part of it a bit down making it about twice the height. I dont think you need to do anything about the lenght of the arms and lenght as both sets are within the rules. Some sholders would do nicely though.

Keep up the good work, but if you dont want critique, please dont ask what people think, as some might take that as an invitation to actually say so. In this case most comments are very positive, and some just havent taken the time to look at all the great points of this model and therefor pointing out the only bad things they could find. On great things, its easier to see one mistake rather than one within many.

yes im sorry for over re acting i just did not think that heckno trying to make me look like a total idiot was "C&C".

Did you read my posts?

The fact that your model does not have the critical items for animations to flow properly (it needs a pelvis & shoulders) is the best criticism you could get..

From my post and I quote

Quote: "this model will need a bit of rework to have decent animations

but your progress looks better and better so by now you probably have figured all this out and corrected it....

keep it up...we need more organic modelers around these parts... "

It is the user point blank... I can't do in blender what you have done with this model so does that make it blenders' fault? So with that Should I continue and Say

Blender sucks dog ass here are some milkshape models

I hope you understand my problem is with the way you expressed your inability to create what you wanted in your previous 3-d program...

ok i understand now, im a blender man now, and no one can change me . i was just offended because at first it seemed like you were just trying to be a smart a$$, and with that as a barrier did not see the underlying compliments and criticism, that were indeed legit and thought out.

my only problem ith milkshape really, is that by using triangles, its very hard sometimes to get a smooth shape. Organic modelling isnt best done in milkshape, at least for me.

HAHAHA!! quite an upgrade from what $30? you went ahead and slapped like two more 0's on there!

ok i think im going to delete his legs down, it looks like stupeh face. i did fix the pelvis problem, i also got him a few girlfriends...there pretty high poly, i dont know how he'll keep up with them.

im thinking of him having pants like Squall from FFVIII. A good example is the main CG picture from his kingdom hearts cameo.

@Odd mind, thanks to your avatar I thought you were Jimmy then I saw an apology and thought thats definately not right

For apps I'd say it depends on what your modelling style is and how you like the GUI, most people like Milkshape, but if you don't get it to work, well give it a chance, if you still think its crap, (I mean, I don't like Wings3D) then you don't like the app, if you think they are all difficult/crap, then modelling + you was never meant to be
