I'm just curious. I've written some nice little apps usinge BlueIDE and DB Pro. Now i want to put them out for free download. But it wouldnt really be cool if the user had to "install newest directx" just to run those little apps (that doesnt do anything graphical at all).

Is DirectX necessary with BlueIDE apps that doesnt use any graphics, only BlueIDE gadgets?

can you please use the right names

blueIDE - a free open source ide(intergrated development environment)
blueGUI - a winapi graphical gadget system

from what i remember as long as you don't call any dbpro stuff, ie no set display mode, no print stuff, then you can run it on a machine without dx9 - but i can't check as i've already installed dx9 on every machine in my possesion

Check out 'NoDX' on this site

http://www.hybridmechanics.com/unchained/

as long as you use *no* DX9 commands what-so-ever (display etc.) your OK. I think the only commands that don't init DX9 are VectorMath and core commands - so be careful

The acronyms were a poor choice on my part. BlueGUI (stands for Blue Graphical User Interface) is the plugin, BlueIDE (stands for Blue Integrated Development Environment) is the editor.

BlueGUI does not use or require DirectX. However, the DBProSetup plugin which is built into all DarkBASIC Pro applications does check for the presence of DirectX. The only way to remove the DirectX requirement is to use the tool DavidR mentioned several posts previously.
