I need some tutorials on how to apply a uv map to a model... I mean, this program has such a diifficult interface, and no help files

I know how to make a UV map, you select the faces, then go to Edit/UV Mapping/ And Planar (Should I use something else for a 3D model?).

But there is nothing saying how to load that .BMP UV Map file and then applying to an object.. anyone know how?

There's more options than just the planar mapping (and I get good use of them too). Make sure you export your altered model. Then applying the texture can be done in dbpro, whatever you modeled it in, or use the materials menu in lithunwrap to apply the texture.

Ahh Jim, the wonders of google eh? Its suprising the kind of results you can get with a simple internet search! Who would have guessed?

Your calling LithUnwrap a 'horrible program' when obviously, you are new at it, you havent shown hardly any effort to learn it, quite simply you arent in the experience level to call it 'horrible'

Go purchase 3DS max, open it up, get confused by the interface and OMG ITS HORRIBLE. Sounds like a pretty rediculous statement if I do say so myself.

I think after you take a look at some of the links Jim posted (yay Jim!) then you will find LithUnwrap to be a program that is perfect for getting the job done Not to mention, its free, you cant expect something mindblowing for $0.00. If you want something more professional, shell out some cash for Unwrap3D. You have no money? Well then, go get a job. Your too young for a job? Go mow the lawn.

Patience Xenocythe maybe Lithunwrap isnt the program for you just google for other UV mapping apps or sit down and take the time to learn with whats you got.

LithUnwrap is very good, your probelem is making the texture.

uvwrapping is a black art, reserved for those of us who have great artistic skills and 3d spatial awareness. you cant learn it over night it takes time.

after about a month of practising it each night you will find its nuiances and tricks to make things easier.

one trick is if the model is symmetrical you only have to create half the uvwrap and texture, then duplicate the side and flip it horizontally.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

This is a very good start for uving.... Just in case anybody missed it the first time....

Learning the hard way, I agree with indi... If your model is going to repeat groups, best to only have to map and texture one before you duplicate... An example of this would be if you were to make a tree or plant, my basic palm tree was just the trunk and one section of leaves then I mapped it and textured before building the rest of the model using duplicated leaf groups...

Hope this saves somebody a week or so, sure would have helped me...

Lithunwrap is harder to understand than UV mapping - I mean it's sooooo fidly! - I often orientate my model for mapping then put it back together afterwords - especially for angled cylinders - they much prefer to be UV mapped when standing straight.

I tend to use cylinder mapping and decal mapping primarily, decal mapping can be tricky when the polygons fold into a single line. There is a little tip though, if you select all the vertices along the line, then deselect the vertices that are not on the line - you can UV map that again, like from the top with a decal map, and save your model from texture stretching.

It's time consuming, tricky, and annoying - so you better practice! - seriously, practice with as many different types of model as you can, there's too many 'modeller but can't UV map' people in the world. UV maps are just a matter of giving each vertice a 2D texture location - once you suss that out learning to UV get's easier.
