Edit: Signs II ver.2.0 is available at

http://www.fpsconline.com
or
http://www.fps-files.net

Signs version 1.30 is now available at the following location:

Signs is a graphical utility.
Signs DOES NOT do anything you couldn't do manually, it just does it really fast. Signs will take an image you load, resize it, create a 64 x 64 fpsc image and create a .fpe file all in a matter of seconds. It was developed after I created several signs and thought this is really boring and time consuming.

After I created a few dozen signs using this utility, I thought why not add framed pictures also. So I did and it now works good for both signs and wall pictures.

Signs is very easy to use and I have already thought of new things to add. But, I'm the only one that has used it so I'm not sure what others might think of it. Take it for a test drive and let me know your comments.

If you email me your comments, I'll send you a copy of the program that does not use a watermark. Click on the ? in the program for more information.

Really nice app, tschwarz

I've been wanting something like this for along time, It is Very! time consuming adding your own signs.

Right, one thing i can see wrong is that theres no option to remove the frame, I added it to see what it would look like and then couldn't remove it.

I know that i can simply load the image again, but theres some people that won't think of that and will e-mail you constantly asking for a removal option, so that might be an ide for something to add.

Another thing that might be nice is having the uninstall option added to the start menu, Again not a big thing but it's for the same reason i stated above...I noticed theres an un-install in the program group, so a simple link to that on the start menu would do it.

The app has a good clean layout, with easy to use features..doesn't look complicated and over worked.

oh yeah, did you use Visual Basic to make Signs?

I think I'll just make the frame button a toggle to turn the frame on and off. I'm adding the ability to select different frames also so I might just open another window and have one of the frame selections none.

I decided to take the un-install off the menu, seemed to easy to click it by accident. The program can be removed the windows way of add / remove programs also. If there is more requests I will put it back.

Visual Basic it is.

Thank you for your comments

talk about saving time, thought you were over exaggerating,

Great proggy but you might want to consider having 2 windows of the image, w/ & W/o the frame, easier to compare!

Update to Signs:
Added an uninstall to the program group.

Added new picture frames, frame button now toggles
the frame selection on / off.

Frames are loaded from frames.ini file so you can
add your own frames.

The install program will ask if you want to overwrite the
settings.ini file. You will want to say no to retain your
existing settings.

tschwarz,

Greetings. What an incredible program you have created. Thanks for sharing it with the community.

Seldom am I impressed with a program that surfaces in forums such as these, but I think this one will be huge in the FPSC community.

Best of luck to you, in your continued endeavors.

Thanks,

Seth Black

This is really a great program! Would you consider making something like this for a

.3DS to .X
.X to .3DS
.X to .FPE
.FPE to .X
.3DS to .FPE
.FPE to .3DS

model converter? It would really speed things up. What I'm trying to say, is that it would be really neat to have a model converter just like the Signs program you created, where you have to type in all your properties ONCE! then it will do the rest for you. that would be Spectacular!

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

ok, also, when you choose an output folder for your sign, you need to be able to browse.
second, when you install the program, it needs to aske you where your FPSC folder is, because mine isn't in the C:\ drive, it's in F:\ and the program assumes it's in C:\.

Your doing a great job!

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I hope you are having fun using signs and that it is helping you add a little extra visuals to your projects.

Attached is a new version: the frames window closes properly now. I guess I'll have to test a little better in the future before uploading.

Krazykris:
The non-watermark version is available now. Click on the (? button) in Signs for more information. Currently I am not charging anything for Signs and don't have any plans to.

SunFlash:
I'm not doing any registry checking now to see where fpsc is installed on your system. But, you should only have to change the drive letter in settings if you kept the same directory structure. I will add a browse button to save directory (thanks)

Doctor Evil:
The program will load "jpg, png, tga and bmp files) and it saves the final image as a png file.

tschwarz,

Greetings. The capo link that you included seemed to be down or obsolete. Page cannot be found is all that pops up, when I attempt to open it with my browser.

Could you please look into fixing this problem?

Thanks,

Seth Black

I have removed the previous program link that was emailed out.

I have redone the texture size routines to be more proportional to the sign meshes which makes the final images look at lot better on the screen in Signs and inside FPSC. I am just doing some testing to make sure I didn't break something else. Once I recompile and test a little more I will send all that has emailed me a new link.

I have added a button to allow users to browse for the default texture folder.

Added a new frame (LCD TV)

Thanks

fpscuser @ gmail.com (take out the spaces)

That email address has always been in the demo program.. Just click the "?" Button and it is listed on the bottom.

Thanks for all the positive feedback and to the folks that sent screenshots of what you have been creating.

Here's a users quote for anyone wondering about transparency:

"I've tried transparency, the app itself doesn't do it (as you already stated it), but changing the texture in the fpe file isn't a problem at all. I just copied the original 32bit tga file to the folder where the fpe file created by Signs was. I changed the texture name and added transparency = 1 to the ;orientation section and it works fine! Signs is still saving me a lot of time indeed."

If you haven't received the full version
be sure to email me and request it.

fpscuser @gmail.com (take out the space)

The next version might not be for free. So get it

Hey, this is really great! I just got the full version, and am having lots of fun with it! One thing I would really like to see is a text box that allows you to manually change the height and width of it. It would be sweet it it (the text box) displayed the current size, so you don't have to blindly mess around with it. And how about making a "test im FPSC" button? That would be cool.

I've included a FPM. file of one of my signs (of Sunflash The Mace). You can have it, just don't shoot him

P.S. Theres one problem wih the signs that are made, you can't make bullet holes in them. If they get shot, they don't show any sign of it. It would be sweet if Signs came with some scripts to use like, open, or press enter and the sign slides open to reveal a note or something

When FPSC gets good enough, lets make a Redwall game!

My signs have force fields around them.

Actually didn't notice that before, then I started checking out signs from packs I purchased and they don't show bullet holes either. The default signs from fpsc do show bullets holes. I'll do some checking on the texture format and see what I can find.

The signs are set to static by default - thanks though

tschwarz,

Many thanks for the update. So many talk about what they're going to do for the community. So very few actually deliver.

I can't wait to see how you evolve Signs further. Please do keep up the great works!

Seth Thanks, glad you like it. The text was really fun, I had it in before and then took it out. I've been playing with some overlays like claw marks and rips which kind of look cool.

Sunflash,
Don't wait and how can you be disappointed, FPSC is way cool directly out of the box. Create a game with just the content that was included with fpsc. Create an indoor FPS game, that is what it was truely meant to do. I leave the Halo 2's for the large development teams that have years to complete. I bought FPSC because I want to create something cool in a few days. Even if it's only me that thinks it's cool

I already own FPSC:0. I was refering to why I havn't released any meia packs

Hey, nice update! It would be nice to be able to move the text though. It gets annoying to have to have it in the middle.

EDIT: another thing, if I have something in the corner of a picture, and I want a frame on it, it will get covered by the frame. This gets REALLY anoying. Can you have the frame go AROUND the image, but not cover it?

Yeah, currently you have to use the enter key and space bar to move the text around (a little lame but works). Will be cleaning up the code and fixing things like that shortly.

And a checkbox that says fit image to frame, good idea can't believe I missed that.

I found a few hours to play around with the signs program again the other night and added a routine to resize the image inside the frame. It's a checkbox so you can toggle the resize on and off.
Thanks SF for the suggestion.

I had to redo a few of the frames so be sure to overwrite the frames.ini when installing. Let me know if your images look ok when resized to fit frame.

Just about done with a new version, which now does Signs, Walls and Floors. You can select the sounds that are attached to the floor plus select predefined decals to place on the walls and floors, decals include wood moulding, crown moulding, hazzard strips concrete fountation. Decals for floors include handicap parking, manhole cover. I need to take my camera out and find a few more.

I am looking for a few beta testers to try it out and let me know if it works.

If interested email me at fpscuser @ gmail.com
Request Beta in the subject line

I could also use some help with a few things (models and wall textures and a new opening image) and maybe a tutorial on how
to use the program.

If interested email me at fpscuser @ gmail.com
